Only on this forum could I have a title like that and get away with it (even then it still sounds like a Benny Hill joke). Up until this week there are only two Frogman models that I've still yet to have in my hands at some point and they were the Kermit and Brazilian frogs. I'm not including the ultra rare Mastermind and Murikama ones as they are true grails to me. The Kermit sometimes comes up at reasonable prices (to me anyway) of about £500 in Japan but the Brazilian seems to have skyrocketed lately with mint/new ones going for ridiculous amounts and some badly worn ones selling not too far behind.
The one I snagged was from eBay and it's the limited Addict model which is a clothing brand from the UK. I'm quite glad that Frogman models don't have too many collaborations with companies other than the WCCS and ICERC so it makes these examples even rarer, before you consider that there are only 400 of these made and most I've seen have been in pretty bad shape. This one did say it was worn and some fading had started but the photo's were not the greatest and although you could see the fading on the bottom strap it didn't look too bad. I wouldn't usually have bid for a G-Shock with known problems but as it was first a Brazilian and secondly the Addict version I thought I'd have a go at snagging it.
The auction went through the usual slow start with not too much happening until the last few minutes. I set myself a realistic target and entered my bid with 10 seconds left. I was happy when I won the auction for a fair amount beneath my max bid and paid immediately. It arrived two days later and here are the pictures (or it didn't happen) to show it off a bit.
The condition was about on par with what I expected apart from the bezel having more wear than was stated. It isn't terrible but it should have been mentioned or at least well photographed. Happily though the crystal and case back are flawless and it even shipped with the original plain brown outer box with an Addict sellotape on it. I'd always wondered how these could get so worn but after having it on my wrist for a while you can tell that the worst of the fading is on the bottom of the wrist where it would always be in contact with desks etc... The fading on the bezel is also where it would catch on things and also clothing with long sleeves (it's only the raised edges that have start wearing down on the top and sides). For some reason though this fading looks much worse when the watch is off of the wrist, especially in photo's. When it is being worn they seem to just be part of the watch. It probably helps too that even on the faded parts of the bezel the colouring coming through is still grey so doesn't look too bad until it is up close. At least this example won't get much worse with age as I doubt I'll wear it too often.
