Hi guys/girls.
A while back I bought this beat up Omega "Seamaster" dating from the late 70s, early 80s. It was the first vintage watch I purchased & from the minute I did, I felt I had rushed into it without taking some time to educate myself to the many pros & cons of buying a watch 40+ years old.
It was sold on the basis that it's an Omega Seamaster, model number 166.0174.366.0833. It's a 36mm with a black dial & runs with the 1012 movement. It has an integrated stainless steel bracelet which is supposed to the original.
I started to try & find out a bit more about it once I'd received the watch. As hard as I try I cannot find another such like model anywhere. The 166.0174.366.0833 model number seems to be for an Omega Geneve, not a Seamaster.
I was pretty convinced it was a fake & tried for quite some time to remove the caseback to see what was inside. The caseback wouldn't budge, to the extent I thought it'd been tampered with so as that you couldn't remove it to check the movement. Last night I finally managed to open it up. I was surprised to find that it looks legit but obviously I'm no expert.
I can't work out what the situation is? I think perhaps someone has decided to put a Seamaster dial into a Geneve case as that would be more likely to get a higher price?
I'm guessing here tbh.
Can anyone give me their opinion on it, fake? Legit? What model it is? Background etc?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The movement looks genuine. Does the outer side of the case back have a seahorse medallion? If not, then you are probably right and it's not a seamaster case

No the caseback has the Omega symbol on the back. I'm certain the case & movement are not what you'd get with a Seamaster.

If it’s the omega logo on the caseback then it wasn’t a seamaster in this time era of production.
The omega symbol was reserved for the Geneve line and the deville had its own logo too.
I’m no expert but I think you have a Geneve with a 1012 high beat 28,000 ah. The dial is probably a genuine seamaster dial for the same watch but a seamaster. It won’t be for yours, your original dial probably was ruined due to moisture etc and the owner sourced this one. Whoever serviced it would know this 100%

Thank you for your thoughts on my watch TB05, much appreciated. I'm more convinced this is the case, a Geneve with a Seamaster dial for whatever reason. (y)

It seems that way. An example of a deville is this.

The Geneve would take the omega logo and a seamaster would have this

I managed to find a couple of Geneve Day Dates that are identical to mine in everything but the additional Day window, mine only having Date.
It makes me wonder if there is a Day wheel within the watch? The availability of that dial when the original was replaced may have been difficult.

Omega 101x movements don't have a day wheel. The 102x's have.
