I know this is a Ball forum, so I'm expecting some bias. But I would like to hear some other opinions.

I'm debating on whether to pick up the Storm Chaser with metal bracelet or a white faced TAG day-date Carrera (cv2a11.BA0796. I've attached a few phone pics.

The day I went back to the AD to see the Storm Chaser, they were sold out of the White TAG, so I took a picture with the the brown faced TAG for comparison. BTW, I plan to get either watch with the metal bracelet along with the leather strap as an accessory.

Storm Chaser pluses: Nice textured face (can't see them from my phone pics), Lume - although, I thought they would be brighter (I went to the bathroom to see them in the dark and they didn't appear any brighter than regular luminescent applications, but the colors are cool), very nice bracelet, less expensive by a chunk after discounts.

TAG Pluses: Overall looks more 'polished'...they have nice accents using chrome, etc. Arabic numbers give a unique look, crystal back lets you see the movement, which I love.

They both have the same 7750 movement and as such are almost identical in size.

Can't wait to hear what you think.

If you check our sponsors site the DLC version with an upgrade in lume is coming very shortly. This can be had is a gray or black dial. Now with DLC there is not a bracelet option. Just some food for thought.

I saw pics of the new Storm Chaser somewhere else. I'm not a fan of the black DLC. I think the new watch is a different animal than the older model. To me, it's much more of a sport watch now, where as the old one, with the SS bracelet, could be a fine dress watch. Swap out to the leather strap and it's a sport watch too.

And the lume upgrade looks great at night, but too busy for me during daylight hours.

the carrera has more umph IMHO. probably due to the arabic numbering the the design. Ball on the other hand has more features vis-a-vis the carrera like being anti magnetic(not sure about this), shock resistant and the like. plus it has a telemeter (although i really do not know if the average joe uses that function)....

so i guess it is sort of a question of form over function... i think...

I think I'm with you on the umph factor. I think it's the use of chrome on the TAG vs the all satin steel look of the Storm Chaser. I'm going back to the AD this weekend to make a final decision.

Epilogue - So the GF and I decided against the Ball Storm Chaser and she ended up getting me the black faced TAG Carrera Day Date (CV2A10.FC6235). The Ball with the SS bracelet was less expensive by about $350 but in the end, it was the 'umph' factor. The Ball looked a bit sedated sitting next to the TAG. But both are nice watches for certain. The thing that really made the TAG stand out was the 3 dimensional look. It's hard to see in pictures but the arabic numbers are raised pieces (not just painted on) and the sub dials were actually slightly convex which gave the face a much more textured look.

Thanks to the couple of folks that responded.

I bought a Carrera CV2010.BA0794 about 5 yrs ago from Rob at this forums sponsor and loved it....it was a daily wearer for 4 yrs or so despite keeping horrible time. I think at best it ran about +12 but the original Carrera was/is a classic. The day date i dont care for as much. The design is a little busy and the enlarged case size seems like a 'super size me' reponse to market pressure. If it were a choice between the CV2010.BA0794 variant and the stormchaser i'd go with the Carrera for the sheer understated claassiness of it....sometimes less is more Of the two you are considering the stormchaser wins hands down IMO.

i was going to get a Tag Carrera WV211B.BAO787 at an AD, but my wife mentioned that you can get them at Macy's tto. don't know why but that dropped Tag heuer down a bit on my list. Trainmaster CE Blue dial won my money after some more searching. although i wouldn't mind having the hard job of choosing the Carrera VS the storm Chaser. ;-) i'm sure you'll enjoy that Tag immensely .

I have to agree that Tag has more umph...and now for the Ball bias :) --> You might have liked the old Ball EHC chronograph or Trieste (both 7750, one had applied tritium tube Arabic numbers at the non-cardinal positions...1,2,4,5,7,8,10,11)...much higher umph factor.

I think these are two fairly equal watches going down separate paths (Rugged verses dressy). Personally it takes something in the Grand Carreara series to make me step up for a second look. One thing to note since it looks like Tag is becoming more like one of my other favorite brands Seiko. Tag has the general line that show up in Macy's, but they also have many new distinct things that are pushing the limits of how watches are made. Look at the V4 and pendulum movements they are building, these are for the serious collectors who want something different. Some really cool stuff , but not quite up to what spring drive does yet.

I own the storm chaser on bracelet and for me it wins. To me Tag as a brand is uneventful. They don't grab me and really are at every mall in the country. I like the lesser known and visible brands when I purchase. More unique.
Eric, like you, I like something less commonly found. But side by side, the TAG just had more character. It's all subjective of course. But I've not seen anyone I know with the Day Date Carrera so I'll be fine :)

@BG - The ball I was most interested in originally was the EHC Mad Cow. But alas, it wasn't available for me to see.

It is also a discontinued model here in the US. FYI generally abbreviated as EHC.

fixed :) Yeah, I knew it was discontinued...I was hoping my AD could still get one.
A call to Ball US may be able to help you find if someone has one still in stock. Since this has been discontinued for about 5 months now that window may be going away. Next option is a Spacemaster standard or X-Lume.
