AIR-KING Owners Club

I'm new on the forums, but it seems like the Air-King doesn't get enough love around here. So I thought I'd put up an Air-King owners club thread and see what happens...

When I decided I needed (NEEDED I say) a Rolex I started looked at the Datejust. But no matter how hard I looked nothing I saw "spoke to me." Then, randomly, I saw a photo of the Rolex Air-King 114234 with the silver face and orange Arabic numbers. The first thought that passed through my mind was, "That's a sexy watch." Not once had I said that about a Datejust.

After drooling over the watch for a couple of months Govberg had a great sale on a used Air-King with box and papers. It was literally Christmas Eve 2017. My wife was so tired of listening to me agonize over the watch and how good a deal it was that she bought it for me as a Christmas gift. I win!

Having owned the Air-King for about a year, I've realized that I love the simplicity of it. I can wear it casually or as a dress watch without any problem. And the lack of a date complication is a huge plus in my book. In fact I have since decided that I won't buy a watch WITH a date. The date breaks the symmetry of the watch face. (I really hate when the date is squeezed in between the four and five markers.)

This decision makes it a lot harder to find new watches that I need (NEED I say) to own. I did pick up a Longines Avigation Big Eye, which is another story of self torture. But this thread is supposed to be about Air-Kings... so, please, tell us your story. I'm particularly interested in how folks decided on buying the new Air-King. My mind still isn't made up on it...

Last night I went in to look at a Pelagos. I had no intention of buying a Rolex, but I saw it in the case and fell for it. It seems like everyone has a Sub, and for good reason, it's a beautiful watch.

The dial on the Air-King is playful with green, yellow and the large numerals. The case is big at 40mm, but it wears well. I love the watch couldn't be happier. The picture below is from the drive home.
I really do like that dial. Wear it in good health
Exec 1: "Customers are demanding lume on their explorer numbers. And they say the hands are too short."

Exec 2: "Ugh, fine. Whatever. Lets replace those parts but keep the model number exactly the same just to piss-off the 'original condition sticklers'. Now what are we gonna do with all these gold threes sixes and nines? There's like a stockroom full of them!"
Here's mine, 14010
I like the bezel on that. What year is it? I've realized that I'm not a big fan of the traditional Rolex bezel with the ridges. I've seen my watch with the traditional Rolex bezel and hated it. The smooth is just more pleasing to my eye. The bezel on yours, however, has a nice look. It gives a little texture but avoids the ridges...

Thanks for the photo.
Sorry for the delay. It was first purchased on the 3rd October 2001and ive had it since 2012.
It must be the most unassuming Rolex, it's never ever been noticed.
After not wearing it for weeks a single turn of the crown gets it going and the time keeping is +/- 1 second.

Well here is mine

This is the pick from the drive home yesterday when I got it.

It's my first rolex and am very pleased. I was after a standard op. I saw the air king in photos and it didn't do anything for me. But either it grew on me or when I saw it in person that green did it I don't know. Either way I'm an aviation fan and love this watch.

Same thing happened to me last month. Went in planning on buying a Pelagos. Never thought about the AK for a second before I walked into the AD. Looked at in the case and realized it's a completely different watch when you see it in person. Congrats. Enjoy it.

It sure is. Thank you very much
It really is a watch that looks better in person. For whatever reason, it just does not photograph well. It caught my eye when I bought my SubC Date. The dial is a deeper, glossier black in person and the green and yellow text really pops and goes well with the watch.

Dan.05, that is an obvious fake. The giant crystal gasket, RBR that is as crooked as a dog’s leg, and that LEC that I can see from across the room.

I'm going to have it checked by someone. I was under the impression it wasn't.

If it is I'll be going back to where I got it from. Thank you for the heads up.

Well, you can have it checked by whomever, but that is as FAKE as fake gets. Not even close. If you really did buy that from a jewelry store or something, you need to get your money back ASAP. However, you did imply you got it from an AD...
Why would I bother to post a fake on here and try to get away with it when everyone here knows what a real one looks like and own them. And for what? To impress people I don’t know who have nicer watches then I do?

No I should have done more research before I gave my $ in. I’m getting it checked this week and if it is(which now after looking at heaps of pics and the like) go and try to get my cash back.

So right now I’m down some coin. Should have just done my research or went for something else.

If I had the tool to open the caseback I’d look myself.
However, you did imply you got it from an AD...
A friend of mine said he knew someone that worked in the city and deals in them.
He said he could get it a little cheaper. Big mistake it seems. It was my mistake to make.

I have a BBB 79230n, aquaracer etc all from legitimate places. This one is the first and last watch that I tried to cut some time off acquiring.

So to all the friendly people on here, I apologise for posting this watch.

I am now, after investigating this in detail pretty sure I was duped. But I'll get someone to open her up.

So again sorry all.

Mate, that sucks. I really hope that you can get your money back.

Same. I'll get my money back. I'm very persuasive. In the interim looks like this is my best
