AIR-KING Owners Club

I'm new on the forums, but it seems like the Air-King doesn't get enough love around here. So I thought I'd put up an Air-King owners club thread and see what happens...

When I decided I needed (NEEDED I say) a Rolex I started looked at the Datejust. But no matter how hard I looked nothing I saw "spoke to me." Then, randomly, I saw a photo of the Rolex Air-King 114234 with the silver face and orange Arabic numbers. The first thought that passed through my mind was, "That's a sexy watch." Not once had I said that about a Datejust.

After drooling over the watch for a couple of months Govberg had a great sale on a used Air-King with box and papers. It was literally Christmas Eve 2017. My wife was so tired of listening to me agonize over the watch and how good a deal it was that she bought it for me as a Christmas gift. I win!

Having owned the Air-King for about a year, I've realized that I love the simplicity of it. I can wear it casually or as a dress watch without any problem. And the lack of a date complication is a huge plus in my book. In fact I have since decided that I won't buy a watch WITH a date. The date breaks the symmetry of the watch face. (I really hate when the date is squeezed in between the four and five markers.)

This decision makes it a lot harder to find new watches that I need (NEED I say) to own. I did pick up a Longines Avigation Big Eye, which is another story of self torture. But this thread is supposed to be about Air-Kings... so, please, tell us your story. I'm particularly interested in how folks decided on buying the new Air-King. My mind still isn't made up on it...

"A friend of mine said he knew someone"

The absolute most horrible way to do anything in life...............

Yeeesh
Thanks for the constructive criticism.
However, you did imply you got it from an AD...
A friend of mine said he knew someone that worked in the city and deals in them.
He said he could get it a little cheaper. Big mistake it seems. It was my mistake to make.

I have a BBB 79230n, aquaracer etc all from legitimate places. This one is the first and last watch that I tried to cut some time off acquiring.

So to all the friendly people on here, I apologise for posting this watch.

I am now, after investigating this in detail pretty sure I was duped. But I'll get someone to open her up.

So again sorry all.
Yikes, sorry, what a horror story. I was a little unsure about how this transaction went down though. Did you purchase this at an actual bricks and mortar store?

No. Like I said big mistake.

I reached out over the phone and said that the watch was a fake. He sheepishly asked when I want to be reimbursed.

I'm meeting with this friend of a friend today. Should be interesting
Ok so, the conclusion to this saga.

I met up with the seller and demanded my money back, which after a little argy bargy I got it back.

The box looked original so I gave that back. I tore up and damaged the fake papers authenticating this monstrosity. They were in the box. The watch was thrown on the ground and I hope irreparably damaged.

He then got angry.

I told him that I could take the matter further if he liked.

He took the box and left.

Hopefully I took 1 more fake outa this world.

To all of the kind folk in here that were subjected to my photos of the fake, I apologise. I did so unknowingly.

To all the people hoping to get a watch a bit cheaper and faster. Obviously don’t. I made that mistake for you.

Oh and for my friend. I have told him to delete my number and not let me see him.......again.

This has been an experience I never want again.

thanks for the input champ.
Worked in the yard all day. Enjoying the fruits of my labor, a refreshing beverage and my favorite watch. About to fire up the grill. A solid Saturday.

My 4925 Air King. It has the early 10.5 Hunter movement, (actually a 710 manual wind movement), it has the dial that led a few years later to the Explorer 12, 3, 6, 9 layout for clarity, and it has the unusual Super Oyster crown that doesn't screw in.

AD told me it was gonna be a while before they got another Air King and I just couldn't stand it, ended up picking up one from DavidSW, the warranty card was dated April 2018 and it's from an AD in Brazil (in absolutely perfect condition I might add). My local AD is telling me Rolex USA won't honor the warranty but David says they will, hopefully I'll never have to find out!

Congratulations! It's an international warranty, they have to honor it.

The Air King has been banging around my mind for a few weeks, even after trying an Explorer I, OP39's, and various DJ41's - so finally gave in and picked one up today!
