So I've got myself a DW-5600E and I can't for the life of me figure out what the point of the "Light ON/OFF" button is for because it absolutely does not affect whether or not I can turn the EL. If if the "on" indicator star is on, I can use the light; if it's off, I STILL can use the EL. What's the point of this thing??

That light on/off option is for the EL flash.

With the feature turned on, the EL will flash when:
alarm sounds, hourly chime, or countdown timer ends/beeps.

@K42,
Sweet, thanks. I suspected that was what it was for but I didn't actually try verifying it. Thanks.

You are correct but that only applies to certain modules like the one in the G9000 MUDMAN. In the 5600, 6900 it means indicates the FLASH ALERT function is off or on as K42 has stated. Hope that clears it up for ya ... :-!
