Seems that I do this around the same time every year. If you want to see the evolution, you can look through these links:
2017 SOTC
2018 SOTC
2019 SOTC
I've got the spreadsheets and files to do some deeper turnover analysis and all that; maybe I'll offer that up later. Feeling a bit bloated in the collection, but my thematic acquisition of oddities is definitely strong. Some will go, maybe a few trades for refinement, but no more buying this year. I swear! Really!
First a couple group shots just because I spent time arranging them.

The toolish troop:
15403520

The fancy stuff:
15403522

The wife's collection:
15403523

Now for more particular groupings. Favorites are in bold.

Dress watches, L>R: Vostok Classica handwound (because it is the GO Sixties at 1/20 the price!); Erwin Sattler Classica Secunda dead-beat regulator; Parmigiani Tonda 1950 rose gold; Vulcain Classic 1951 Cricket; Eterna Madison Spherodrive.

15403524

The country club set: Heuer Professional; Rolex Oysterquartz ref. 17014; Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Tribute to Charles Vermot; Piaget Upstream; Grand Seiko SBGT035

15403526

The world of chronographs (not pictured - Seiko 6139-6012 "Gold Eye" and Seiko 7017-6040 flyback in service): Seiko 6139-6010 "Bruce Lee"; Vulcain Aviator Instrument; Seiko 6139-8002; Bell & Ross Space 3 GMT; Seiko 6139-7069 "Blue Eye"

15403528

The serious implements: Seiko SBDX007 Landmaster; Damasko DA46; Sinn 556 LE; Seiko SBDC011 Field Tuna; Glycine Airman SST12

15403530

Sea and Adventure time: Scurfa Diver One; Seiko 7C46-6009 Ashtray Tuna; Muhle Glashutte Seebataillon GMT; Seiko 7C43-7010 "Korean dial"; Casio G-Shock 9400 Rangeman (the only one that has actually been below 5 meters of depth on my wrist!)

15403531

Some fancy Seikos: King Quartz 9223-5000; Lord Marvel 36'000 SGP handwound; Bell-Matic 4006-7012; Lord Marvel 36'000; King Quartz 5855-5000

That's about it. Yeah, I didn't do special picture of the Bulova Accutron Astronaut and Pulsar Date II, but the math didn't work out and they live in the dark without batteries for the most part. Too many Seiko 6139s, a couple dressier pieces that I may let go, maybe a "spare" chronograph and low-end piece to go to market just to clear some counter space.

Thanks for looking and any suggestions to get a Speedy or a Sub will be politely flamed.

You can always use a nice German deck watch.

You never want to be unprepared for an unexpected artillery practice.

Eterna Madison and the Zenith are the stars of the show for me. Great t see that Eterna out there, can we see a movement shot?
Seems like you and I are the only ones who like the Eterna. The dial finish is so nice, such a classic old man style watch.

Nice, but at 40 plus watches..., well, I guess I'll take the Sticky way out... enjoy.
I did use the word "bloated" to describe it. But I am actively collecting, not just having a few wearing choices. I really have come to the point where there is nothing out there I crave and I am hyper-critical of things that cross my screen. The recent Oysterquartz acquisition satisfied all my search lists (seriously, it was a 3 year hunt). I buy when value opportunities strike and I do enjoy the trading & dealing aspects, so I suppose I need some stock to make it enjoyable.

If I were offered what I consider fair value on almost any of them, then I would sell and not be sad.
If my collection was down to only a week's worth of watches, then I would probably be in a buying mode again.
You know the Sinn 556 and a G-Shock could suffice for everything; but if that were my attitude, I wouldn't be posting on WUS.

I'm not going to do justice to this SOTC by going over each theme or watch one by one, so I'll just say the following:

1. This is a fine example of organised chaos. When I see this collection, I imagine anarchic instincts shepherded by a structured mind.

2. It's a good example of how we can explore the furthest reaches of the watch world to enrich our experience, and fit each piece into a coherent whole in a way that sharpens that experience.

3. Needless to say, I like the range: from old to new, from function to form, from east to west. They may not all be to my taste, but that would be quibbling because the big story here is the composition as a whole.

4. I'm not even going to venture to suggest what belongs here. You obviously have an independent mind and will make your own choices. I wish there was more actual individuality on show in these fora. Enough said about that.

5. I generally agree with ring-fencing crowd pleasers and walking the other way. That said, if I had a personal reason to want one, I wouldn't hesitate.

Great collection!

For me the best is sadly without battery, that great Bulova Astronaut, that's the cherry on top for me.

Best regards and stay safe, George.

Cheers!

It is a great watch and my stepfather had it fully serviced by the guru in PA before bequeathing it to me (again, as I wore it all the time in my mid-teens). It eats batteries - part of the issue is new, non-mercury batteries are smaller and I have to use a little spacer ring as is common for keeping these running - so I only power it when I expect to wear it a lot.

Sympatico, amigo.

1. I take that as a compliment! I keep my sock drawer arranged by color, purpose, and material, so I am constantly trying to reconcile the diversity of my collection into a coherent narrative.
2. Yes! I like the shiny, but I am always trying to keep it interesting.
3. My taste is all in my mouth, as Mark Twain probably said.
4. There is no moon phase, but I have a new G-Shock G-LIDE to take care of that, I guess.
5. I'm never going to put my name on an AD wait list.
