So, I have a fairly wide collection, I own several Oris, an Omega, few Balls (just two hehe), and a few Tudors now; got a BB58, a black bay 41, and just received a Tudor 1926 in the nice black dial.

I'm shopping around for a white/light face watch, and I've come across two great local deals; one is for a Tudor Glamour Day Date in 39mm, and the other is a Tag Heuer Carrera 5, also in 39mm. I love the day complication on the Tudor, but I feel the Tag calls to me with its more modern design. The Tag is also several hundred less expensive. Both watches are used and in very good condition, so have already taken the bulk of the depreciation hit for a few years, I feel.

I have not owned any Tag pieces before, and I know that there is some controversy with real watch aficionados but at the end of the day, both of these watches have an ETA based movement, so even from that perspective, they stack up well.

I'm stuck, I need some anecdotal opinions!

I own the Carrera with a black dial instead of white and would wholeheartedly recommend the Carrera over the Tudor. The design is very iconic and the sharp angles make it look amazing. Not to mention the sheer amount of lightplay from both the case and also the hands and hour markers. It also wears great because it's quite thin and the bracelet feels quite premium, especially for the price. Although I haven't owned the Tudor, I've found their watches feel a little... cheap to me, especially ones that aren't the BB and Pelagos (and I personally don't even think the BB is worth the price).

Carrera dial in person is amazing. some will say Tag is overpriced, etc. but if you can get one with a discount it's a good value IMHO.

I have that white dial carrera on my wrist today and would highly recommend it - I wasn't 100% convinced when I bought it (the price I was offered was too good to miss), but it's really grown on me, and now it's definitely one of my favourites. Normally Tag get very little love on this forum, but the Carrera lugs, and the way the dial and indices catch the light really work for me. To me it's a more sporty and modern design vs the Tudor, and I wear it mostly for business-casual weekday work.

Note the newer Carrera calibre 5 has the date at 6, you might prefer that one.

Possible negatives you might want to consider: the bracelet doesn't have micro-adjust which is a deal breaker for some, and it takes 19mm straps so not easy to swap the bracelet for a strap if you feel like a change.

Damn, I gotta say, I didn't think I'd get so many votes for the Tag.

The Tudor is a quality piece, it's well built and robust But that bracelet doesn't speak to me, and the bezel is a bit too thick, for a 39mm watch. That's where the Carrera comes in with a nice thin bezel. My concern was that the quality of the bracelet on the Tag would not be up to par, but it seems, according to comments above, that is not the case...

I think the design language on the Tag Heuer Carrera is much clearer and comes across as intentional. The Tudor seems confused. There was a long period of time where Tudor mimicked Rolex, in a good way. Then, they stumbled around trying not to look like their big brother. Watches in the later period are interesting, but a bit out of place. I think the Tudor in question is trying not to look like his big brother, but has not yet discovered who he is.
