I'm trying to get something for my dad that has a little problem seeing and remembering (like what year it is) because of increasing dementia. I want to get a tough solar with Multiband 6 or at least waveceptor so he never has to worry about changing batteries, or set his watch.

Any help with these criteria?
Day and Date displayed at same time
Year (with 4 digits) like 2010
Day with 3 digits, like Wed or Mon, not Mo or We

This MTG901-2AV has the year in 4 digits but the day in only 2.
This GL150-3V has the day in 3 digits but the year in only 2

Or any other brands, like Suunto?
:thanks

Might be overkill, but have you considered any of the Pathfinders?
I would certainly consider it but I havent seen any that meet those criteria, unless I am missing something.

I don't know a model which has this display and the multiband solar. Maybe someone will know one here. However, solar isn't an absolute solution against battery replacement (many threads about this topic on the forum), so if you are ready to compromise on this, there are a few models with very legible full display and 10 year battery : you can check the w800h, and the w96h.

Is the year that important? Take that out and you open up the field.
That's true. I just wanted to see if there was something that I was overlooking but I guess not, it looks like a very uncommon thing.

The Casio 1300 Protrek/Pathfinder series can show; day date month & year on the primary display Format 10 1 3 or SUN 3

HighGear Altis wil show exactly what you want Format Jan 3 SUNDAY 2010

Loaned from Mystro ;-)

However it has many display options for each function, and push of a button may create some confusion, no disrespect intended.

Casio 1500 Protrek/Pathfinder will display day, date and month Format SUN 1 3

All the watches in the picture the primary display`s are configurable, and have several display options, these are just what I have handy.

The Casio Protrek/Pathfinder range are large watches with big easy to read display`s, and have easiest operation of this type of watch, however they are multifunctional and can have as many as eight display screens.

it's not atomic or solar but Mine keeps time to 2 or 3 seconds a month though, and they have decent battery life

@freeman, yep that would do it, and with a 10 year battery, should be good enough.

@Qeen6, that Highgear Altis type display, is exactly what I am looking for, you're right about the buttons though. I will look more into the Pathfinder ones too.

Thanks guys, just the info I was looking for.

Hmm, yes indeed. Not crazy about the layout and the separate window, but that might be a good compromise. :thanks

If you forgo solar, the Casio PRG-40 (PAG-40) might be a strong contender as it has far fewer features and display screens. the watch has one of the highest contrast levels ever produced making it one of, if not the most readable digital on the market.

Format Day, Year, month ,date i.e. SUN 10 1 3

This watch runs on four replaceable cells and will run 18 - 36 months depending on use of the compass etc, you will also get a visible warning of low battery, however the watch will still run for several weeks. Available on bracelet or resin strap

I see, yes I will look at that one. Cool pictures of Blade Runner in the background by the way, it looks like the 5 disc collector's edition.:-!

i can't help but look at these displays and realize what a messy compromise almost all of them are. i actually have rarely seen a watch that can display time as nicely - as in, directly, as in ergonomically, as my new phone does right on the main screen. all of these ugly segmented lcds, different sized elements and bad abbreviations seem really archaic. it's 2010, gentlemen! of course i understand the tradeoffs for battery time and cost. that doesn't mean these watch faces couldn't be much more human-friendly!

Just a matter of time, as long as the market exists, just look at the rapid evolution of the cell phone, programable display`s now there`s a thought ;-)

a-Tom-ic, you've totally summarized my thoughts on this subject, I couldnt agree with you more.

@Queen6, yeah you've got me looking at the PRG-40. Good thing I already have the Blade Runner set, in Blu-Ray no less:-d

G7800. Comes in a positive display. The top and bottom lines have many options for customization. Not solar/atomic.

Casio Waveceptor WV200A. Comes in blue and black and also a bracelet model. Several language options and month/day display can be switched to day/month. Atomic but not solar.
