I've been doing some research on a non-chronograph, automatic square watch. Must haves include sapphire, not too dressy, and $500 or under. Nice to haves include screw down crown and a retro vibe.

I came across the Brew Retromatic but they're darn near unobtanium! I also came across the Crossroads by Trafford Watch Co. To me, it comes across as a nice little sports watch; kind of a classy field watch vibe. I'm just smitten with this watch, especially with the curved sapphire.

What are your thoughts?

That's one of the coolest case shapes I've seen in a long time.

The construction itself, the polished lugs and their inner bevelling, the way that polished section overlaps the bezel and can be seen around the whole case, the concave crystal from 9 to 3, the subtle two layer finish of the case side around the crown, so many interesting details.

I'll keep following them, the vh31 version might interest me.

Very cool design, all around, with some interesting nuances. I'm not sure what might define the broadly Anglo design aesthetic, but it does remind me of AnOrdain and Farer, a bit.

Specs on the website say Miyota 9039 movement, but in the pics showing the back, the movement looks more like a Swiss movement, I think, but definitely not a Miyota 9 series. Perhaps the pics are of a pre-production prototype, assembled before a change in the movement spec.

I vaguely recall Trafford's Kickstarter project for their chrono. A quick skim of that project's more recent comments didn't reveal any complaints. Seems like backers were generally happy, and the brand owner was very communicative before, during and after the project.

Best of luck to them on this model's launch. If you get one, please post pics and a review.

I'm looking forward to this one too! I think it's fantastically designed. The more I look at it, the more great design touches there are to notice. Someone paid attention to ALL the parts and made them all nice looking, unique, and harmonious. Rare to see, and very gratifying to admire. I hope the final product lives up.

I'm just a pleb that has only owned NH35 and Orient watches this far, so I know nothing about the movment. I know Trafford said it was a custom rotor. Here's a pic from their official prototype email. Since these are review units, I would presume they have the final movement in them.

That looks more like a Miyota. This pic from the info page on their site looks Swiss:

Swiss or not, it's definitely not a Miyota 9, and definitely not the same movement pictured above.

Not trying to throw shade at Trafford. Like I said, my guess would be there was a change made to the movement spec at some point.

The more I look at it, the more I think the images on the info page of the site aren't photos, but rather very realistic 3D illustrations. More than likely, they didn't bother to update the illustrations after changing the movement spec.
