seagull VC PC.JPG

I tried asking about this over on f72 to no response. I can't find out much about it, other than
  • 40mm case, 7mm thick
  • on sale for $1300-1500
  • ST41 movement, which is a thin handwind

(pinched from a Ric C post)

The dimensions and the design are very much in the VC PC mold:

Has any one encountered one? If so, tell all, please.

Can't help feeling that $1,500 is lot of money for a homage, thin or not.

It's a really simple design. With so few distinguishing features, it would be hard to make a watch in that style that wouldn't be called a copy or homage by many people. There are minor differences that I can see. That being said, the price does seem really high for a watch like that. For that much you could get a Chinese tourbillon, which I think represents a better value considering it's a tricky movement to make and usually costs a lot more.

Ok, say you sat down to create a numeral-less two-hander...
avoidable similarities between the two watches:
  1. baton hands (not, say, Alpha or Arrow or Baton or Breguet, Cathedral, Dauphine, Feuille, Pear, Spade)
  2. choice of indices at 3, 6, 9, 12 (not the double marker more usual for Chinese watches)
  3. choice of indices at 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 (reasonably common)
  4. round minute markers (occasionally seen)
  5. the colour of the dial is clearly a nod at the VC dial ("silvered opaline" it says here)
  6. same case dimensions
I've now read that the ST41 movement is to be reserved as an in-house movement - but it is also available in the 219.388L, which sells for only $428 on Singapore Sea-gull, or $270 on Taobao.

These numbers are a long way south of the $1500 for the 819.320
