Several websites that follow Apple are reporting Apple has extended
the warranty on first generation Apple Watch 1 by two years for
battery issues. Presumably if an individual watch is going to have
the problem it will show symptoms within that time period.

Thanks,

It's to cover repairs if a battery swells. I would also expect that, at a certain point, they'll replace it with a Series 1 as the supply of first-gen watches dries up.

My Series 2 suffered the same thing last week and is currently now with Apple for servicing, despite my Series 2 only purchase on April 26. Fortunately I still have my original AW which is so far so good, even though it doesn't have long battery life and the speed of Series 2.
