Hey all,

I just bought a used WAB2010.BA0804 that was 'serviced' before being sent to me, but it's consistently running 1.5 minutes fast per 24 hours.

I read that a watch only needs to be regulated if the watch is fast/slow by different amounts each day and that it needs to be adjusted if it is running fast/slow by a consistent amount of time each day.

I figure the watch needs to be adjusted, however I live in a small town which most likely won't be able to adjust it (is it a difficult process?).

If I visit a larger city, ie. Vancouver Canada, where can I take it to get adjusted? How long does it usually take and how much does it cost?

Is it a better option to ship it to Tag? Or would this be pricier?

Thanks, appreciate it!

The internal regulator to the escapement (the heart of the movement) usually only has a +/- range of about 60 seconds.

Watches run fast for a variety of reasons. Often it is because the hairspring (the spring that actually controls the timing) gets magnetized. If this happens, it makes the hairspring have a faster beat and the watch runs fast. This is simple to fix. And it does occur more frequently in shipping due to all the precautions taken nowadays.

Other things can happen too. But it will take a watchmaker to look at them.

Any watchmaker or TAG Authorized Dealer (AD) should be able to handle this. The AD will probably want to send it back to TAG so I would find a local watchmaker who might be quicker and cheaper.

Thanks Eeeb,

I believe the only TAG Authorized Dealer here is Peoples Jewellers. Is it possible to call TAG directly for a quote to fix it? For some reason I doubt that Peoples can fix the problem on their own.

I they need to ship the watch out and ship it back, wouldn't that risk magnetization again?

PS: I'm in Canada

TAG will not give any quotes until the see the watch. That's normal.

If it is magnetization then any watchmaker can fix it. There has to be some watchmakers in BC! Find 'em and see 'em and get their opinion.

In general, find a good watchmaker and make him your friend :-d

People's Jewellers is not an Authorized TAG Dealer.

If the watch is off warranty (which I'm guessing it is), your best bet is to find a local watchmaker to do the job. The watch has a Calibre 5 or ETA 2824-2 movement which is used in many watches (not just TAG), so it shouldn't be tough finding someone reputable in BC.

If you were in Calgary, I can point you to the right place.

Thanks for the help!

I'm actually in Fort McMurray, Alberta right now but I'll be flying back to Vancouver for ~2 weeks in a few months.

I hope that is enough time for a watchmaker to fix the issue.

To test if it's magnified I think I'll try putting it next to a compass; though from what I've read, it seems magnetization issues cause much greater time losses than I'm experiencing....

I wonder what else it could be...

Ahh, fairly close to me in Calgary. I would suggest contacting J Vair Anderson Jewellers here in Calgary, their service guy is top notch. One of the top Rolex guys in Canada. He'll be able to fix the problems.

Staples in Ft. Mac has Fedex overnight insured service to Calgary for like $30. Or you can ship it Greyhound for $10.
