The Swedish watch brand Arlanch and Schmidt Technology have developed an oil-free ceramic ball bearing rotor. The benefits being that it requires no service intervals and the reduced friction provides greater winding efficiency.
When Arlanch in 2009 presented an oil-free escapement they where suddenly one among only a handfull of watch makers being able to do so.
Recently a few high end watch brands have been presenting oil-free ceramic bearings. Most, if not all, of them made by one company, MPS in Switzerland. Therefore Arlanch again finds itself being one of only a few manufacturers worldwide when it comes to cutting-edge technology for watch movement parts.
Quite a journey for a brand that started out just four years ago.
