Armitron Griffy Retro LED with Custom strap upgrade

Hi All,

Thought I'd share the final result of my quest for a nice strap for my Armitron Griify.
I tiried a fair few and wasted a few with modifications that didn't work to my satisfaction.
If you're familiar with the Griffy, it's a nice reimagining of a 70s style LED digital, with large modern LED suitable for those old enbough to remember the orgianls to still be able to read it.

All the reviews are true, the watch is great, being fully stainless steel so it won't give anyone with a nickel intolerance (Like me) a rash when they wear it.
But the straps are ghastly. Thin, sharp and cheap feeling. Like a 70s strap, but not a good one.

Anyway, the problem with replacing it is the lug size. It's 16mm bars, but 20mm width of the strap itself.
So lots of fun to try and find a replacement for.
I ended up modding various straps but didnt find something I reall liked until I found a very nice Tommy Hilfiger strap.
It did need a bit of modding as the ends of the strap where the pins go through are square and clearly didn't move at all on the original watch.

Anyway, here's some pictures.

I have my Griffy on an oyster-style solid-link bracelet with straight endlinks (CAD$18 from Aliexpress).

The endlinks had to be shortened from 20mm to 16mm. I removed 2mm from each side with a file, frequently checking my progress with calipers. Easy peasy. The slots remain long enough to access/operate the spring-bars.

Is it perfect? No. Visually, the oyster links are a bit too far away from case (i.e., there's a noticeable gap). Otherwise, it's fine. The modified endlinks fit snug-and-secure, and they articulate fully. It feels comfortable on wrist.

I'm satisfied with it. It's far better than the stock folded-link bracelet, or a 16mm bracelet that looks far too small relative to the case (both of which I tried). Given the watch cost CAD$40, and I see it as a novelty piece, I don't want to throw any more money at it.
