Of course it's not really Baselworld Day 2, but it's our Day 2. Everything was going really well, but by the afternoon of Friday, Ernie began to feel unwell and made the tough but wise decision to pull out of Baselworld and travel home. Fortunately he is now on the mend, and he sent these new photographs from his sessions on the Friday right up to the point where he had to tear himself away. Even under the weather Ernie can still take a great photograph.
Pequignet
This well regarded French brand, located in the Franco-Swiss Jura region, was founded in 1973. The brand has a number of collections, two of which are Moorea, introduced in 1984, and the Collection Manufacture introduced in 2011. The inspiration behind the legendary MOOREA Collection was Emile Pequignet's passion for his race horse, Moorea, the king of the horse shows in the 1980s. In search of a strong and distinguished identity, Emile Pequignet invented the MOOREA link bracelet; a steel grain-shaped link hinged with the bracelet, perfectly identifiable in its design.
The Collection Manufacture is regarded as the real flagship of the Pequignet company, the Calibre Royal® is a mechanical movement produced in the manufacture and a symbol of the Renaissance of French Haute Horlogerie. The Calibre Royal was entirely designed, prototyped, tested and assembled in Pequignet's Haute Horlogerie laboratory in Morteau.
Moritz Grossmann
This Glashütte based brand is named after the Glashütte watchmaker Moritz Grossmann -1826-1885 -who specialised in high precision chronometry and is considered one of the founding fathers of Glashütte watchmaking.
BENU Tourbillon
In these pictures Ernie models the BENU Torbillon, launched to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the company. The watch features a large flying three-minute tourbillon with a V-shaped balance bridge.
BENU Power Reserve
New for 2014 is the BENU Power Reserve, The BENU Power reserve is being launched in four versions: Rose gold, white gold, and platinum with argente or grey dials. Special emphasis has been placed on the making of the hands. To achieve the best possible contrast against the grey dial, the hands are crafted from stainless steel according to a proprietary process. The BENU Power Reserve is easily distinguished by the red-white, bar-shaped power-reserve display
BENU Rose Gold
H. Moser & Cie
Schaffhausen based H. Moser & Cie underwent a management buy-out just over a year ago and for Baselworld 2014 they have brought along some of the watches they have been working on.
Moser Venturer Small Seconds
If you like your watches clean and sober, H. Moser should definitely be on your check out list. The Venturer Small Seconds, has classic, clean design and runs on the maison's new movement, the Calibre HMC 327. The Venturer Small Seconds is available in three styles, with the dial either argenté, ardoise or red gold fumé.
H. Moser & Cie Perpetual Calendar Black Edition Watch
This the first time the company has produced a DLC-coated titanium case, it was previously offered only in rare metals such as rose gold, white gold, and platinum. The beautifully simple and sleek watch is powered by the HMC 341 calibre which has a matching black finish to complement the case. The watch will be available in a limited quantity of just 100. Note Ernie's blue checked suit in the background. It cut a dash.
Ritmo Mundo
Los Angeles based Ritmo Mundo has signed up five of the Brazilian World Cup Football (Soccer) team to promote their new Quantum range. Among them are Brazilian David Luiz who plays for English club Chelsea and for the Brazilian national team. Each ambassador wears a 50mm Quantum watch with Swiss chronograph movements.
Among other watches, Ernie models here the Reflex. These self curl silicon bangles come in more colours than Ernie has designer jackets. Set the watch to 'ON' and the left hand column of figures lights up to show the hours while the right hand column shows the minutes.
Fear not, there will be more live pictures to come even though Ernie could not be present and the good news is, I didn't have to take them with my 6 mega pixel Nokia Lumia 520. Bhanu Chopra is here with a real camera.
