Visiting with Peter Speake-Marin is always a pleasure as he calmly explains his vision for his watches, and provides the transparency for his operations. Speake-Marin as a brand is growing slowly which is not only good news, but a smart way to navigate the watch industry. Speake-Marin brand has ten employees currently, with Peter overseeing various responsibilities and designing at a high-level.

The 2016 collection brings together colors, fonts, and traditional watchmaking into a diverse collection appealing to different price segments. Watchuseek favorites were the Blue Spirit Seafire Chronograph and the Resilience Black, although Velsheda Deco was also a close second.

In 2015, Spirit Seafire model was released in red, blue, and orange dials. This year, Speake-Marin added two new dials each in a limited edition of 28 pieces to continue the collection. Both the dials have a Spring/Summer theme with blue and white dials.

Peter was inspired by the British military and pilots watches of 60 years ago to make the vintage designs of the chronograph. This is visible with the use of Arabic numbers for the minute counter and Roman numerals for the hour counter - both fonts represent a bridge between the past and the present.

Both blue and white Seafire chrono come in 42mm Piccadilly case in titanium. The movement is Valjoux 7750. The case back is engraved with Speake-Marin's motto of "Fight, Love and Persevere". The date at 3'o clock is designed as a narrow round window on these two watches. Peter stated that he will be looking to experiment with the design of the date window in the next version.

Retail price is 8,500 CHF (excluding taxes).

The new Resilience with a black dial in a 18K red gold Piccadilly case look stunning. Gothic Style red gold colored Roman numeral and topping tool logo, make this watch stand out even more in the sea of watches out there. Resilience black is powered by Vaucher 3002 automatic movement. It is limited to 8 editions, and has been already bought by retailers. Retail price is 21,200 CHF.

Speake-Marin released the Velsheda Gothic earlier this year and since it was received so well by retailers and press, Peter decided to produce Velsheda Deco for Basel. Velsheda Deco is a more conservative execution with a 38mm case in steel and a dial made in enamel. The unique hand is neatly counter balanced by a red pointer at one end and an arc at the other; coupled with the fine 5-minute graduations around the peripheral chapter ring which looks like a compass.

The movement can be viewed through the display-back to admire the topping tool rotor. Velsheda Deco is a limited to 8 editions. Retail price is 11,500 CHF.
