here it is folks, a luxury icon for many ($7.5k), lent to me, Capeland 1006 with La Joux-Perret 8147-2 (based on ETA 7750), WUS minireview at https://www.watchuseek.com/f67/baum...-capeland-10006-review-pics-video-561113.html

Why posting in Affordables? Well, as a reference point in my opinion, we want to see what others can do.

and microscope details follow here. Summary - great work, only a microscopic evidence here and there about some human touch, except outside lugs screws - work of some intern, I guess ;)

Another great series.
Those examples were mostly excellent. I guess you're getting what you pay for.

Very nice! At first I thought some of the printing was a little rough. Then I realized how small it actually is on that watch. Rather incredible with that in mind.

The only thing I don't like about this series is that I want to take my Alpinist and PR 516 GL under a microscope and see how they compare to each other.

yes, exactly El Primero I was thinking about - but also maybe Tag, Seiko and don't forget Invicta too ;)

Did someone say Urwerk?? YES PLEASE!!

On a more realistic scale, I'd love to see a Zenith El Primero up close. I have a feeling that one offers A LOT of bang for your buck in that price category.

I think printing is kind of distorted due to reflexions from the extremely bright light from the microscope

I have a microscope on the way, 8 mega pixels, variable magnification.
Hope it works well.

I will add as soon as I can, my current microscope and point and shoot camera are proving too much of a pain to use and also the quality is not good enough.
what is that microscope? I just wonder, since I returned two to amazon already

Brilliant post - I'm loving your microscope series.
This B&M Capeland has been my grail since it was launched. Not sure I'll ever feel comfortable paying that much, but the close-ups make the yearning stronger.

It must be time to put an Invicta under the microscope!

These types of printing (used in watches) never print evenly nor do they print smoothly. It has many bubbles, uneven surfaces.
Bright light+sensitive camera= exaggerates the minor imperfections in the print surface. I remember this from my pops being in the newspaper business a while back. They used to have camera systems that scanned the newspaper printed (magnified) for printing faults.

Microscope link

This one, however I think I may need to return it as it has no from above illumination. We will see.
Looks like they sell light rings that might address that.

People on a kitchen knife forum that I frequent have had great success using fairly low res Intel microscopes (aimed at kids). The pictures of scratch patterns from fine grit sharpening stones (surfaces that would appear polished to the naked eye) capture plenty of detail. Here's a recent blog from a sharpening system maker with pictures from another inexpensive USB microscope: Wicked Edge (WEPS) Shapton Pro Stone Microscopic Progression « Jende Industries Blog
