So I won this pair of old, dead, fairly well used PRT-40's on eBay UK last night, got them at £29 for the pair.

I've only got them so I can chuck batteries in and flip them as working. Even as used as they are, these old things normally sell quite well.

Anyway, they are both different models and I was wondering if anyone knew about the one that's a Bassing Gear? It's only a question purely out of interest, I don't intend keeping it just because.

There seem to be 2 or three Pro-Treks that are Bassing Gear, is there anything about these operation wise that are different to the standard watches?

Cheers 🙂

Probably one of these smaller lines in Casio watches which came and went.
It made for Perfect Basing!
There been at least 3 models i am aware of , 2 with baro sensor but that about it what i know.
I have two Fishing Gear Casios and never cared about this fishing part of them. Neither bothered to find what is Casio motivation in making these.
Since they are old, Casio did not provided any PR fluff to support the story like they do now.
There is cool bass on the screen when you press illumination button. that probably about it when it comes to differences. Hope they work!
Technically it is LE.

I have affection for this generation of PRT Pro Treks. As far as I can tell, they did quite a lot of crossover/collab and splinter branding back then. You can often find special branded units that are otherwise identical to the mainline units aside from, well, the branding on the case or strap, the case back, or the EL backlighting. As a collector, I'm a bit of a purist and generally go for the mainline branded units unless a particular reference is difficult to find in good condition.
I've come across a few Bassing gear models in my search.

Here's how things sat at the end of last year. I love them for their brutish but elegant design. They're functional and comfortable and would be ideal if they had a countdown timer but I understand why they wouldn't.

I'm not too bothered what the Bassing Gear thing means or does either really, just wondered if it was different in some technical way. I know that the Fishing Gear watches at least have some sort of dedicated fishing timer on them for those that need something like that! I guess it's the same with the old Yacht or Ref Timer Casio's from years back, a bit gimmicky but useful for some 😂 .

No special functions. The modules are the same as the mainline units on the ones I've seen.

The module isn't any different from a normal PRT-40. Only the branding is different. Casio did a lot of these brandings on the ProTrek line back then but they were limited to JD Market so not much is known about them.

Yours looks very beat up, I don't know if that's screen bleed or the chapter ring broke inside of the watch.

It has tide info and moon phases. Tides usually don't affect freshwater habitat for bass fishing. Moon phases do.
Hmm, I see that the standard PRT-40 has the 1470 module but the Bassing and Birdlife versions have the 1471 module. Could that account for different functions?
I don't see anything about tide or moon here in the manual for module 1471.

Thanks, hadn't even noticed that TBH, not good visuals on my side 🙄 .

On the zoomed photo on the listing it's definitely the chapter ring out of whack so hopefully easy to put right👍

I don't know much about Pro-Treks at all, but the second PRT in the pair is also a 1471 module, so maybe it's a slightly updated version of the 1470? I mean the only difference in the old 901 & 691 is the battery type used!

1470 could be original 1996 model batch. Later had 1471. I think.

My apologies. I pulled up a pic that was identified as a Bassing version and it showed moonphase and tide. Another G-Shock for sure. I'll correct my post.

No worries. It would have been cool if it did have some fishing-related functionality. Some of those old models had interesting, specialist functionality.

When I searched around I did come across one or two other Pro Trek models that were Bassing Gear too so obviously they had the moon/tide but not the PRT-40.

I like these old ProTreks and come across them fairly regularly at flea markets. Just this past weekend I picked up a beat up, filthy PRT-50 Bird Life International version. That’s not rust btw, just dried gunk from the old band.
