Does anyone have a great recommendation for a trusted source where I can buy a 39mm Explorer 214270 Mark II at a really great price?

Most Chrono24 offers seem overpriced, I don’t trust eBay with high-value second hand purchases, I’ve not only heard good things about retailers like Bob Watches or Hodinkee and there are lots of dubious sites like Watch Rapport…

Where do you go to get a good deal?

DavidSW has a sterling reputation but be prepared to spend ~$10,000 but strongly suspect the 214270 will appreciate over time as it becomes more and more scarce.

My 214270 Mark2 is probably my all time favorite watch.

"Great price" is subjective.

You'll go high and low, up and down searching around and then see the price go up further in the mean time. Then if it's such a low price you'll have to wonder if it's real. If you're looking for a 214270, it's likely you're not a vintage expert either that can tell authenticity with pictures or feel like you can wire $10k to someone without blinking an eye.

I suggest just not messing about, paying market, but grabbing an open card or 2020 new card.

I suspect rolex will eventually roll out a 41mm version of the explorer at some point because it shares the same case as the OPs.

I honestly feel sorry for people who are getting into the higher end of the watch hobby right now. I bought my 214270 at below retail and that was about 4 years ago at this point. Prices in the used market are crazy compared to what they used to be... on the plus side though, it makes a lot more sense to buy watches at retail as they seem to retain their value a lot longer.

I would feel comfortable paying maybe 2K over retail for a 214270. 2x the price is not worth it in my opinion. You can get significantly better watches for that kind of money. But if you absolutely, positively, won't be happy unless you own a 214270, then go for it.

If you want to get a "good deal" on a 214270, I would suggest keeping an eye on the sale listing here or haggle with someone on chrono 24.

The trusted sellers posted above will help you, but I would add that the major watch forums have private sellers who are selling a watch and you can check the listings for the Explorer 39mm. If you are uncomfortable doing this transaction with a private seller, then look at all the major secondary market dealers and they will surely get the watch for you.

Don’t think anyone will sell you Explorer 39 MKII for a good price really, the price will only go up and up. Your best bet, look for something in production now.
