Catawiki is holding their Exclusive Selection auction this May, as the Amsterdam-based online auction house offers up an assortment of watches, jewelry, and other collectibles selected by their in-house team of experts. Running Friday, May 7th through the 9th, this three-day special event features auctions across a variety of categories, with listings coming from around the globe.

Originally founded in 2008 as an online community for collectors, Catawiki has since established itself as an auction house, having facilitated sales of pre-owned watches since 2011. Signing up for the site is completely free, and winning bids are subject to a 9% auction fee, paid by the buyer, which is lower than what’s seen from the major auction houses (upwards of 25%). Overseeing the upcoming Exclusive Selection auction is Romain Marsot, the site’s lead watch expert, with over 10 years of experience in the vintage watch industry.

Here’s a closer look at some of the highlights up for auction during Catawiki’s Exclusive Selection event.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5064 (2000-2010)
15864022

First up, we have the Aquanaut 5064 from Patek Philippe. “If there's one watch that has the perfect balance between sporty and classy, it's the Patek Philippe Aquanaut,” says Marsot. “The combination of steel and rubber with the mesmerising dial makes this watch work well on a sandy beach in the South of France, on the golf course, and in the boardroom. We are very proud to have this piece of horological perfection in our auction.”

The watch features a 36mm steel case, black textured dial, contrasting gold-colored hour markers, as well as Arabic numerals. This is a Quartz-powered reference, hence its lower sticker price compared to other Aquanaut references in the market today. As Marsot notes, the strap is black rubber with a steel clasp, suitable for wrist sizes up to 20 cm, and the watch itself is in good condition, featuring minimal scratches on the case (which can be seen in the provided images). Note that no documents are available for this watch, and it will be sold with a generic box. The seller will provide tracked and insured shipping via DHL.

Expert's estimate: € 19,500 - € 21,500

Breguet Classic Alarm 3600 (1990-1999)
15864023

Here’s something you don’t see every day, and a watch that’s very much underappreciated. This Breguet is a self-winding reference that uses a Lemania base caliber with an extremely precise setting alarm system. Unlike alarm complications from JLC, Vulcain, and others, you’ll note a pair of diamond indices on the inner portions of the dial. The alarm can be set to the precise minute, using those two indices during the setting process, rather than having to approximate the position of a single alarm indication hand. It’s cased in yellow gold, with a silver guilloché dial and blued Breguet hands, and is fitted with an aftermarket strap. The listing does include the original box, but no paperwork.

Expert's estimate: € 13,000 - € 15,000

Patek Philippe Ellipse 3609/1
15864024

Catawiki’s Exclusive Selection features a few Patek Philippe pieces, including this stunning Ellipse. An automatic mechanical timepiece encased in 18K white gold, the bezel is set with factory diamonds and the dial is sunburst metallic midnight blue (also with factory set diamonds as hour markers). The case measures 34mm and is teamed with a 16cm bracelet, weighing 106 grams total. While the watch box is not included, the watch does come with its papers. Again, shipment is provided by the seller, but please be aware that the buyer will be accountable for any customs or import duties imposed by their country of residence.

Expert's estimate: € 25,000 - € 30,000

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Perpetual (2000-2010)
15864025

Consistently viewed as one of the best value perpetual calendars on the market, this Master Control Perpetual is an earlier reference offered in a 37mm case size rather than the current production 39mm. This particular reference is from 2002, and is on offer with its complete set of box and papers. Using a rather traditional dial layout, the calendar indicates all of the expected details required of a perpetual calendar, including the day, date, moon phase, month, year, and a leap year indication.

Expert's estimate: € 11,000 - € 12,500

There are plenty more vintage watches from prestige brands like IWC, Rolex, Audemars Piguet and more – but remember, these special auctions close beginning May 7th, so don’t delay. Happy bidding!
