Dear friends,
First apologize if I post up new thread instead discuss/continue on thread about 'the LCD problem'. But guessing that CASIO Watch LCD is quite good and durable, so not much post I can find, when Google some under LEAK LCD problem, DARK LCD after charging, NUMBER SEGMENT missing/disappear, seem not much clue/review I can gather that match my PRG-90 problem

My Protrek PRG-90 (2008) is having Black/Dark spot, kind of bruises on the center of the LCD screen. I notice it several week before some small dark spot appear, but I don't take it too seriously. Then, several week again in the dark/Power Sleep (PS) mode, this time after wake up the watch, I found the dark spot is bigger and noticeable. However, the character is still readable and all function is normal. The EL still can perform and due it still lit most the watch face, no problem to read the watch.

Pls kindly advice your kind opinion, what is the cause of it, I never though that watch so much build for tough activity, in the end will suffer the LCD problem, despite the LCD is suppose the 'tough part' to harness the sun power ;-) Whenever I charge it under the sun, occasionally is under the shaded area, mostly in the cool morning sun never directly facing the sun. Also sometime I dip it in the glass of water to keep it cool and the LCD never become black/dark as overheat LCD symptom. So, LEAK LCD ? But all the segment still appear and not Solid Black/Dark spot  (hopefully it's not getting worse....)

Thank you for your opinion

Hi there, just want to update,if yours big LCD watch have dark black spot it's possible the LCD is broken, as likes mine, finally it is bigger and starting to turn like black invert LCD. I went to Casio Authorized service on August, and they ordered the LCD part from JAPAN, estimate times is 5-6 month. Nothing to loose, if the part is not coming, I guess I will enjoy the 'modified dark LCD'. But surprise to me, it's earlier so they called me and part is ready (waiting time 3 month). Infact, as my model PRG 90 is Duplex LCD feature, they send 2 LCD. I went to service centre, waiting for 1 hours, and viola, lucky for me it can be replaced and now the inside digital face bright as new. But for Duplex LCD is still good so they didn't replace it. Cost is about USD15. So, I guess Protrek PRG-90 is durable enough. And believe as long as the part is still available, CASIO will provide it to customer. Here are some pictures :

Bigger Dark Spot

Now replace with New LCD

Alas, with the good repair come the sacrification... Now the LCD is good but the compass function behave erratic, especially when measure the E/90 and W/270... Somehow it can only display SW and NE when directed to E/W
...Have try to repair it to local Casio service centre here, even it's not related with the (replacing) the LCD, but I guess once the (old) watch being dismantle the other problem may arise. So now, only try to pinpoint N & S first before get the E & W direction. According the service centre, probably the (compass) module on the main board is problem, but to replace is impossible due the mian board is not available (old module). It has nothong to do with the calibration. Well, so much for the Triple Protrek... However the Altitude & Pressure sensor still capable..

Dear fellow Watchuseek,
Happy New Year 2021.. Just want to update.. for almost 2 year my PRG90 Compass is not function well. But after leaving as it is almost 2 year rendering use the compass, suddenly it's getting better it self as now can pin point the S W N cardinal, however when directed to E it's still erratic... I am happy, just 3 cardinal could pinpoint enought to give the direction.

Well, maybe I assume actually the sensor doing bad because magnetize when repairing the,LCD i.e maybe affect by the magnet on the screwdriver/tools. And somehow now the magnetism effect is slowly disappear... I hope so and someday it could back to normal again. So for the fellow who plan to repair/dismantle the watch with compass's function, pls be careful not to use something tools that have magnet effect. And just perhaps a fellow also encounter problem like mine and don't have chance to repair it, maybe lucky enought by time the compass will corrected itself.

Afterall it's CASIO survive.. Thank you

Hope you are fine
Apologize I now it's very late reply, but I do want to reply. It almost USD20 for the LCD modul. PRG90 has 2 modul display, inside LCD and outer (Duplex LCD, the blue 'bearing/arrow' mark)

Cheers,

These are my dream watches and it help me a lot before while I was working in the desert... combining with maps, being lost on the road is not a problem coz compass is working very cool. Pressure and altitude too.
