Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself to you all. My name is Philip, I am a community manager for Verticalscope, I am part of a small team that will be joining the WatchUSeek.com to take over the webmaster duties for Ernie.

We are here to help primarily with the technical end of things and help make the jobs of the current Mods/Admins easier. I posted a real basic run down to answer common questions below. If you have more questions or concerns please feel free to post them in response.

What are our intentions?

We bring reliability, support and the infrastructure needed to ensure that the community will continue to be around for years to come. It's our goal to work with the mod/admin team to help provide the resources and required work to give this community a broader reach, to attract new members, and to better the overall knowledge shared in the community.

Will leadership change?

Continuity is the focus here, YOU as the membership work very hard to keep building this community while your mod/admin team keep the walls and the roof up in this place; we are primarily here to make sure the lights stay on. Every community is unique and should always be respected in that regard. You all have established your own unique rules and regulations and a strong reputation that is carried by all of this. For us it's paramount to maintain this level of integrity and enthusiasm.

What am I here for?

Our primary role is to be the technical contact as I said earlier. You all contributed to building the strong foundation WatchUSeek.com was built on. Moving forward we will all work together to keep the momentum and the community growing. We will be on the forum checking in daily to make sure regular maintenance is taken care of and keeping things running smoothly from behind the scenes. We will also be setting up a help desk on the site for when you have questions or issues with the site or your account and need assistance.

I do look forward to getting to know you all and this unique community better.

Thanks,

Philip

Take care Ernie and all the best in future endeavors. Hope you'll pop in from time to time. :-!

And welcome to the new WUS owners. Just out of curiosity, do you have plans for any kind changes here, like forums structure etc.?

Changes...

Two new Admin accounts you will see roaming the halls. This account is typically used by me Philip and there is another account used by Helena who I report to. We have a support team and a tech/IT team that will also likely use this account on occasion but you will know who it is typically by the signature at the bottom of the posts. I will admit I have a bad habit of forgetting to sign posts so if there is no signature its me being forgetful.

There have been some Anti spam related plugins installed on the site though the membership will not see these as they are part of the Mod personal arsenal.

There are no plans to change the landscape of the forum as you currently view it or how your memberships are managed. If you have suggestions of any kind we will welcome them but will be discussed amongst the moderation team before anything would be implemented.

Another good enthusiast forum that has been purchased by evil VerticalScope from Toronto.. Like many good car and motorcycle forums in the past, they will introduce lots of advertising, change rules for current advertisers and just profit from member content. And no, they don't care about your stupid watches or the people on these forums. You're just a product that generates content so they can make money with advertising.

With a large forum like this, I am sure they paid good money for it and the founder made a good profit. It is always a story about how the previous owner doesn't have the time anymore, VerticalScope is the right fit, nothing is going to change, all about the community and blah, blah, blah. They never mention anything about the price that was paid for all the members and content.

I encourage you to search for VerticalScope / AutoGuide (Verticalscope sucks) and forum buyouts and make up your own mind. The moderators are going to be unpaid staff for VerticalScope as they will be doing all the work without any pay. The adminsitrator is a paid office employee and often has no experience in managing forums and doesn't know anything about the subject of the forum. And they will not stick around as they will be replaced by another faceless corporate employee. They don't activily participates and only control the moderators and forward issues to tech support.

You can say goodbye to Tapatalk because they will force to use their own app so they can control you even more and push more advertising. Also expect lots of tracking cookies, viglinks, links you posted that direct to their own advertisers website and even spam. Your email address and user profile has been sold so make up your own mind. Verticalscope now owns all your valuable reviews, pictures and other content. And they can do with it whatever they want.

Goodbye WUS, it was nice to know you for the short time I was here. I am not for sale.

This will be the new terms of service in case you're wondering: VerticalScope - Driven by Enthusiasts

Perhaps you could tell me what site you belonged to that we did you so much wrong.

I agree. I retain the copyright for most photos I post on WUS, with the copyright notice clearly indicated on each photo. I also use those photos in other personal publishing endeavors, and would not consent to an assignment of my copyright just by virtue of its publication on WUS. Nor would I agree to any extensive use of my copyrighted photos outside of WUS.
You still do, we don't claim any copyright ownership of your content only that you published it here so you granted us the publishing rights to keep it here. The content you post here is still yours you can use it as you feel fit to.

Technically, any picture you post on a Vertical-owned site can't be used anywhere else. So you can't use your own pictures that you submitted. Any review you have written, they own it.
Sadly, they don't tell you this with the announcement of the new ownership.
This is more fear mongering, we dont publish your images outside the site. Some sites have an email newsletter that goes out that will publish links to threads and content you should read chosen by the mod and admin staff on these forums or an article(review) can be published to the front page of a site, that is what this is for.

Thanks for clarifying, much appreciated. It was as I read it then.
If you need further clarification please remember I am not a lawyer, I don't know if you are. I am the only one the site from the team this weekend other than one support person in the office with enough already to do so its tough to get more answers than what I posted but please feel free to send me pms if you have specifics you want answered. The reason I ask for PMs is I get alerts for those and if I have to compile questions into a document to get further clarification on specifics from the people who are lawyers it makes my life way easier if its all in one place to copy and paste it.

Unless I missed something I saw responses to every issue raised but this one.
Regarding your personal info. We do not sell your email addresses or your information. Canada particularly has strict laws in regards to this and even if it did not we have never been in the business of selling contact info. Sorry if this was missed.

I just googled 'verticalscope problems' and 'verticalscope sucks' and to be honest i was shocked by what i found, lets just say its not good.

I have no personal opinion or personal experience so i can only go by what i read, i can only encourage others to do the same and form their own opinions and i guess the proof will be in how this place goes in the future.

Once again welcome to our new owners, i hope you do this place justice, i will hold off on my opinions until they have had enough time to prove themselves either way, but i am worried to be honest at what ive just found on the net.
There are three sides to every story and clearly you can google any company looking for bad reviews online and you will find something you don't like. Yelp is probably the worst when it comes to this where a local business has bad reviews showing before there are good reviews. I am guilty of this, I look for the bad reviews first to see what is so bad and if I should eat there because the drama is always more interesting.
There was a time when the company was newer and we where still learning from our mistakes. This is before my time with VS and my time here has been spent primarily supporting communities and the mod team to help make them better. I have not removed or edited anything posted here, have not banned or deleted any accounts and have been on here to answer everyone's questions to the best of my ability.

Actually I'm a lot more concerned about these two lines:

"All material on this site, including, but not limited to images, illustrations and multimedia materials, is protected by copyrights which are owned and controlled by WATCHUSEEK.COM"

"The use of any such material on any other web site, ftp server or network environment is prohibited."

Your content still belongs to you. This statement applies to any party that believes that can take content from here that was not theirs to begin with and post it wherever they like.

There are automated crawlers that can do that. I have had many problems with users posting copyrighted images of famous people...

Also i want to point out something here (as a former forum founder/owner).
No matter what VS says, the content is still yours and you can post it on other places if you want.
What you can not do is ask them to remove it, they as forum owners have the right to use it in their website(s).

Also, if the terms are changed over time, the rules that where in effect at the time of the post/image placement prevail.
So any existing content can not just be " stolen" from you.

That is, according to dutch law...
I have been trying to say they content is still yours, we just have the right to publish it here since you put it here we are allowed to keep it published here. Please continue to post and share your unique content anywhere you like. Don't take other peoples content and post it elsewhere as your own since that is in violation of the law in just about all countries.
