Hello, I've been thinking about getting an Explorer 2 for a while now. I live in a small town in New Mexico and will be going to Las Vegas in a few days. Would I be better off buying from an AD in Albuquerque rather than Las Vegas? Do all AD's charge the same or can they give discounts? (I've been wearing a custom-modded Seiko black monster for several years now.)
Regards.

Quite a big jump from a Seiko to a Rolex. I too made that jump over 20 years ago, from a Seiko chrono to the original Rolex GMT Master, I never regretted the purchase.

Watchbreath's advice is sound. Vegas has a lot of selections. The largest Rolex dealer is the Tourneau store in the Forum Shops at Ceasars Palace. Three levels of watches. There is also a Rolex boutique at the Forum. Most of the major hotel/casinos have their own jewelry stores that carry Rolex. The Wynn hotel/casino has a Rolex boutique as well. Your head will spin at the numerous selections. The prices are pretty much set by Rolex. I've never been serious about buying a watch at the casinos, but I think they will probably do a little better than the Rolex boutique stores.

Have fun and good luck. Let us know what you buy.

I would be surprised if dealers in LV need to heavily discount to sell their stock.

Do your research here. Know what the MSRP for the watch you want is. Find out what the going resale value is and grey market value is. Decide on what all those values mean to you and what price that means you are willing to pay at any AD. Go into the AD in Vegas with that price in mind and if you don't get to that price have the courage to walk away.

Why not see what kind of deal you can get at home, then go to Vegas and price them there. If they have a better price in Vegas buy there, if not pick it up when you get back home.

That what I plan to do on a trip to Cancun in June.

There are eight ADs on the Strip: Mandalay Place, MGM Grand, Bellagio, two in the Forum Shops, Mirage, Wynn, and Fashion Show Mall. I've been to all of them ;)

if you're not fixated on "discounts", you're sure to find something you like.

Mandalay and MGM are the only two stores I haven't been to. Walked through those two casinos but just didn't come across them.

Thanks for everybody's input! We'll see what happens when I get there and lay eyes on the watches. Like I said, the Explorer 2 is what interests me. Maybe I won't even like it when I see it in person!

That's Mandalay Place, the walkway/shopping area between Mandalay Bay and Luxor.

Ahhh. We always ride the little free tram between those two hotels and missed the shopping area. Last time we sightsee at the Mandalay, I was so worn out that I gave up and cut short our walk.

I've been to one of the boutiques in the forum (the one on the Palazzo side) and the guy there was extremely nice. There was a Rose gold Daytona in the window I kept looking at as I walked by it everyday for 5 or 6 days. On my last day I finally had the courage to go in and look around. He asked if I wanted to try on the Daytona, I said there was no way I can afford to buy it. He said:"Me neither, but it's fun to try it on..." or something like that. Basically he made me feel very comfortable and totally not the pretentious atmosphere I was expecting in a high end boutique.
