I bought this at an auction recently and can't figure out what it is for the life of me. I know wrist watches pretty well but pocket watches, especially antique ones are new to me.

It is 8k gold and has a white face with no name on it. It has a large Hour hand and the minute hand is in a separate dial located at the 6.
It is a side winder, and has a little locking lever at the 4. The case opens in the front to show the face, and has two covers in the back.

Inside there is a paper that is written in French on one side and German on the other. It says

La Boite / Gehause
No. 163180
est garantie / ist garantirt
en or 8 k. / Gold 8 K.
= 0,333 / = 0,333

The only other writing on it is on the back of the front of the case and reads:
F.A.C. (in a circle)
480
8

And on the inside of the back cover underneath the silk feeling paper:
F.A.C. (in a circle)
168480

On the inside of the inside back panel it reads:
METAL
168480
2

The only writing on the movement is where the speed switch is for A / R

Does anybody have any idea what make this is? from what era? or have any info at all on it??

8k gold is below the standards for hallmarking in most countries, hence the rather unusual text in the caseback. The minute hand is actually under the hour hand, but it's broken off. The sub-dial is for seconds. The movement is a decent quality 15j swiss-style lever movement with a lever set; I'd guess it to be late 1800's or early 1900's. It's a fairly generic style of movement, so it could have easily have been finished in Germany.

Hi,
You have a Swiss lever pocket watch of decent quality, 15 jewels and lever set.
Nice old enamel dial looks undamaged.

The device at 4.00 is the setting lever, pull this out to set the time.
The minute hand you refer to is the seconds hand, the mins and hours hands
being in the center. The hour hand is broken off and needs replaced s'all.
Probably 100 years or so old.

Edit
Just disregard as repeated info, I hate when that happens lol.

Thank you! This is the first time I've used this site and I can't believe how fast and knowledgeable the responses are. I wasn't sure about the minute/hour hand but that makes more sense. Thanks again

We don't give valuations on this forum for several reasons (summarised in a sticky) but it will not be worth terribly much since:

- it is only gold plated (so little material value)
- it is a pocket watch (less demand for those than wrist watches)
- it is a no-name watch rather than one from a famous brand

Have it valued by an expert, you will probably be shocked and disgusted at how little it is worth. Sorry, but the market decides the price.

HAHAHA I'm glad you don't give valuations, it is NOT gold plated, I went to three gold dealers and had it appraised at $380-420 in gold value. I am shocked but certainly not disgusted being that I bought it for $40 over the weekend.
Thanks again for the other fast knowledgeable responses!
