It could be a fool's errand since it won't be my last trail fall. But can I get the scratches out of the black bezel and elsewhere? (Was pretty pristine before yesterday's crash.). The glass itself is protected (maybe) by the overlay which I haven't replaced.

You need to replace the top part of the case. Those 4 hex key bolts can be unscrewed to take off the top of the case and replace it with a new piece. It's the only way to make your Ambit 3 Sport brand new again.
