Can I pull off a 44mm Panerai on my 6.5” wrist?

The 42mm is of course the idea size for my wrist but can’t get passed the 30mm water resistance. What’s your thoughts on the 44mm on smaller wrist? Does it look hideous?

It's definitely on the larger side but i think you can pull it off by not wearing it so close to your hand like that. Not only does it overpower your wrist but those crown guards are also gonna dig into your hand.

I have a small 6.25 inch wrist too and I've worn many larger watches comfortably by strapping them on right under the wristbone away from the hand. It gives larger watches more real estate to sit in and visually, your forearms would also help carry the size of the watch.

I agree with Peedee here. Have approximately the same wrist size.

I had an opportunity years ago to pickup up a PAM bronzo. Tried it. I wear relatively large dive watches, but that bronzo was just not for me.

I have tried the 40mm “quaranta” over the weekend that fits me really well and pretty light (I was wearing my SBDX017). Might be the Panerai for me. Though WR might be a lingering concern, I wouldnt be diving with it. Pool and beach swims would be the most of its water exposure apart from dishwashing and handwashing splashes.

^ This

PS, a mirror pic will show better proportions.
^ and also this.

But then there’s that crown guard. It REALLY looks like it would make it very uncomfortable to wear. I personally would not go ahead, but you wore the watch so you know how it felt IRL.

How did it feel on the wrist? It looks large, but It's all in the feel and how you think it looks on the wrist. I think the crown is not going to feel good against the back of your hand and the lugs are going to rub on your wrist knuckle more than normal.

look at yourself in a mirror and take a photo that shows what it looks like from a few feet away. That's a better gauge of how the watch actually fits and looks. Ultimately, you're the one who needs to make this decision. the rough rule of thumb - which by its nature isn't binding - is that if the lugs stray over the edge of your wrist, it's 'wearing large.'

I agree with the observation about the crown guard. Make sure it doesn't annoy you, put a dent in your hand, etc.

If you view your watch from 12-15 inches away while you're wearing it with your thumb facing towards you, that's how YOU perceive it.
If you take a mirror shot from 3-4 feet away with our thumb facing up, the watch will look smaller/wrist bigger and is more in line with how someone else perceives it.
Which view is more important to you?
