Hello all

I'm currently looking for a new watch and just can't decide between the Stowa Flieger Automatic and the Archimede Pilot M. They look very similar and have the same clockwork, however the Stowa is more than 200 EUR more expensive. Somehow the Stowa looks more elegant to me, however I can't tell why and I also can't make my mind if this is worth the bucks.

I'm a complete noob, this being my first non-quartz watch, so I basically just looked at the look, the size and the price. Therefor I wonder: What are the differences in the details of the watches?

At this price level you get what you pay for. The Stowa has better lume, blued hands and a case with better details. Do you value this?

It all depends on my question. I had a Archimede Pilot and found it a super value for the money. I have a Stowa Flieger Original which is much more expensive and find it a super value for money too. :-;

I can only agree to the previous answers.
Both watches are worth the money and you get excellent value to what you pay for.

For example I got the Archimede for my father knowing that it will be an everyday watch with more of a tougher usage than would occur on my wrist. So to say in case a scratch happens it does not hurt that much.

In case you are a freak of accuracy go for the Stowa. The archimede seems not to be on such a high regulation level than a Stowa.

First of all: Welcome to the Official jörg Schauer & Stowa Forum and welcome to Watchuseek as well.

Tough decision, both Archimede and Stowa are excellent. Maybe that is the reason for owning two special editions: The Stowa Flieger ETA 2801 and the Archimede PO.

I chose the Archimede Pilot M because it is smaller and more "affordable" than the Stowa Airman. Having a small wrist, every single mm counts!... And I already had another Stowa.;-)

The differences I know are:
- Lume on Stowa is stronger (C3) and Archimede Pilot serial only use C1;
- All minute markers have lume on the Archimede, but only hour markers on Stowa;
- Second hand has no lume on Archimede Pilot serial;
- The crown on the Archimede is bigger and should be much easier to wound than the Stowa;
- The case on the Stowa looks "shinier";
- Movement on the Stowa will be much more accurate.

If you really like the Flieger style and can wear bigger size, I would suggest you start with Archimede Pilot as your initiation to mechanical, then step-up to Stowa Flieger Original serial edition, which includes beautiful manual winding movement. :-d

I don't think you can go wrong with either. I own a Airman and love it.

I'll give you a quick example of the kind of service Stowa provides. I sent Stowa an email over a weekend with a question about my Airman. Early the next business day I had a reply from Jorg. Not only did he provide a detailed answer he also included a photo to further help explain the answer to my question.

I've wore my airman pretty much everyday for the last week. I believe I set it last Saturday( it was definitely one day last weekend). I just checked it, + 2 seconds for the week.

Both are too small for me, but if I were to get a flieger around 40mm and the price wasn't an issue between the Archimede and the Stowa, I would probably go with the Stowa. I like the hands a bit better: the hour and minute come to a sharper point, the tail end of the second hand is longer and they're blued. I also would prefer a flieger without a date and prefer the least amount of text on the dial, preferably none.

To the OP, buy what you can reasonably afford.

Personally, I had previously weight these two options(a few months back), and had decided that if I was to buy that kind of style, I'd go for the Archimede M. Why pay more than you have to?
