Cars and Coffee events take place all over the US and attract serious collectors as well as enthusiasts getting together early mornings to admire and talk shop. Recently, Perrelet collaborated with the Cars and Coffee event in Las Vegas.
When Perrelet invited me, they did not mention there will be someone special picking me up. As I waited outside the hotel at 7AM, I see a 1973 Datsun 240Z roaring into the lobby. As the car stopped, I see none other than Sung Kang, aka Han from The Fast and the Furious movie franchise, getting out the car and saying your ride is here.
Well, we were not getting in until seeing his Datsun, which is referred to in social media as the Amazing FuguZ. The car itself was built as a project with three friends, but became a bigger project, with the help of Instagram, donations from various car performance companies around the world. The Z put out 220 horsepower from an RB26 GT-R motor. It has a sweet Rocket Bunny wide-body kit and full custom interior by Dubai's CarbonSignal Automotive. 
I rode shotgun with Sung Kang, and we had some riding along and chasing a Lamborghini on the freeway. As we arrived at the Cars and Coffee event, it was a large gathering of collectors and enthusiasts waiting for Sung Kang to kick off the event.
I had an opportunity to sit down with Sung Kang over coffee, and chat about his project with Perrelet limited edition watches, as well as his own upcoming projects. The Perrelet project came about when Sung Kang was discussing cars with Thomas Mao of Purists Pro. Thomas was showing him the turbine feature of Perrelet watches, which fascinated Sung Kang. He wanted to design a watch that was subtle, appeared to be ordinary from outside, but is extraordinary - like the FuguZ. 
Sung Kang added his personal touch for the "Perrelet Turbine Sung Kang LE" Ref. He designed the watch to be worn as a driver - the 12'o clock is moved to 2'0 clock for ease of reading time. The yellow to red redline on the dial, yellow seconds hand, and anodize aluminum turbine blades. This is a watch Sung Kang felt comfortable wearing with a suit on the red carpet, or with a jeans and t-shirt while changing oil in the car. 
Sung Kang is also working on an interesting project with Anthony Bourdain's company-a travel show where he visits car enthusiasts around the world and share their story. It's not a show about most expensive and fastest cars, it is about the bond and enthusiasm of people and their car. 
The Sung Kang Perrelet watch is limited to 350 pieces. It is powered by Soprod movement which is housed in 44mm stainless steel case coated with PVD. The rubber strap gives the watch a complete sports-watch feel. This limited edition will be available in August (2016) and is priced around $5,000.
