I am in the market for a F91W and figured I could go to any of my 5 (!!!) nearby Walmarts and pick one up.

Nope.

Not just F91W but the entire Casio section was almost empty at ALL 5 Walmarts!!!

Plenty of Timex and a full stock of the $11 watches.

I have been checking for two weeks and the Casio drought persists.

Anyone else seeing this? Any info on why - waiting out tariffs, a change in what Walmart will carry, other?

Is the watch case locked or open? I went to one Walmart and there were plenty. I t had a locked cabinet. You had to ask to get a watch. I went to another and could not find what I wanted. That case was not locked. Casio could shift production to Vietnam if tarriffs are an issue. Our Wal marts are farther apart in North Dakota. If I went to 5 it would take all day.

Demand is just too high.

You'll need to go to a Casio AD and ask very politely if they're willing to put you on the list. They're more likely to do so if you buy another Casio first, to build a relationship with the AD.
If they offer you an A158 instead, be sure to take it, and flip it later if needed. You'll get the call for that F-91W eventually.

For goodness sake, they're CASIOS. I don't think Casio plays games like Rolex does anyway.

Visiting 5 Walmarts on the hunt for a $10 watch...

Tell us you’re retired without telling us you’re retired.

Nine months ago, I became a Walmart Plus online member for $49 a year. It has been a life changer. I used to go to Walmart (seven in my rotation depending on what I was looking for) a minimum of twice a week for groceries/hardware/fishing lures/detergent etc. Now I just order online and free delivery to my house (tip is optional)

Target and Fred Meyer in my area long ago phased out selling watches in the general merchandise areas.

Honestly, considering the lengths my local Walmart has gone towards preventing shoplifting of what watches they do keep in stock, I'm surprised they also haven't just given up and replaced the area with something else.

I've been seeing this since early this summer. Here's what it's looked like at my neighborhood WalMart (Casios have always been in the left side of the cabinet):

January 2025 -- this is what it's looked like for years.

Unless it changes soon I'm just going to switch entirely to Amazon Prime. Order and have it delivered in a couple of days.

*the following will contain generalities and conclusions derived from generalities while understanding that there are exceptions

In general, women do more shopping in physical stores than men. They tend to enjoy it more. The most profitable (largest profit margins) items include makeup (lipsticks, blush, eyeshadows and such). These items cost pennies to make (wax/clay plus coloring dyes) and they can sell for hundreds of dollars. They are also in tiny packages/containers that hardly take up any space. They don’t require any maintenance like winding or changing out batteries to put on display. Not surprising that watch counters have been replaced by cosmetic displays across the land.

And be aware that Walmart.com has been using their .com site as a platform for other sellers, be careful who you're actually buying from. You may be paying Walmart but in reality you're doing business with a third-party seller.

The people who shop at Walmart in Devils Lake( I mostly shop there.) are farmers and just regular people. I have not noticed the women wearing skimpy clothes and outrageous outfits you see on you tube. What really gets my attention are women in skirts or dresses. You rarely see that. I don't look down on walmart shoppers we are all imperfect.

I haven’t seen a photo center at my local Walmart, but I couldn’t missed it. I have seen that key making machine. I think my local CVS still prints photos.
CVS and Walgreen still prints photos. I don't need to print photos other than my yearly passport photos for International Driving Permit (IDP) but cost to take and print 2x2 passport photos is ridiculous. Most places want $17-$25 just for 2 basic photos. Costco was like $5 for passport photos and it was great and convenient until they stopped photos and got rid of all their photo machines during Covid. But thanks to AI, it's easier than ever to take a picture with smartphone, edit, crop, and duplicate in 2x2 size on 4x6 paper to make DIY passport photo. Gives me 4 pictures on a single 4x6 paper so I have 2 years passport photo supply for 16 cents vs paying $40. I need yearly IDP so I can rent a car in Japan, South Korea, China, and others while I travel.

Currently, the U.S. has a higher tarriff rate on watches shipped from China than the Philippines. Wondering if this is the issue. Most of the entry-level Casio watches come from China. In contrast, 80% of Timex watches come from the Philippines, which currently has 19% tarrifs on watches. This could be a or the main factor. We will see.
