I just got off the phone with Casio USA parts department. It was a very interesting phone call. I had a list of parts that I was after. They had the more recent parts, but couldn't come up with the oddball parts, as expected.
The big one for me was a couple of replacement bezels for my DW-5700 screwback reissue. This watch was my grail for many years. Maybe the most practical basic G-Shock ever made, as far as I'm concerned. The gal tried very hard, but couldn't understand that a DW-5700 reissue had an entirely different bezel than the old DW-5700 from the 1980's. In the end, I settled for a couple of Rising White DW5725 bezels. They were $10.50 each. I'll just dye them black and repaint them. No biggie. :-!
Obviously, face protectors for the DW-5700 were a no go. :-(
I was smart enough to order some case back gaskets for the DW-5700, but stupid enough to forget to order some replacement case screws. o|
Then I ordered up some replacement parts for my Dawn Black Frogman. I don't feel like getting stung next year, and finding out that all replacement parts have been discontinued. Paying $50.00 to get a new bezel from Tik Tox is hard on the wallet. So I grabbed 2 extra bezels, 4 spring bars, and 2 case back gaskets. :-! The bezels were only $16.00 each directly from Casio.
Again, I forgot to order case screws for the Frogman. o|
One interesting thing that I learned concerns the button gaskets. Casio does not sell button gaskets. If you need new button gaskets for your G-Shock, you have to buy a whole new case. Very odd, but I guess they never expect people to pull apart a case to change all of the gaskets. I thought she meant that they sold them by the case at first (as in case of beer), but I was sadly wrong. She meant the physical watch case.
A bunch of the parts are back ordered, but Casio is great about shipping. The total shipping is $4.50, no matter how many separate shipments they have to make. I told her that she could wait until all of the parts have arrived from overseas before shipping, but she said they can't do that. The downside is that I may end up with 4 or 5 separate credit card charges. Not a big deal though.
The gal was very good about the whole thing. A few of the parts were a "Wow. That's the first time we've had to order one of those" kind of deals, but she did a great job overall. :-!:-!:-!
I have to say that I'm now a confirmed Casio USA Parts buyer. Once you know that a G-Shock is a keeper, it just makes so much sense to order some replacement parts for the future. The prices are far more reasonable than trying to get them through an Internet dealer years later.
