What are the differences between the movement 7750 make by the chinese and the swiss except for the price ? Could there be any drastic difference in the timing ? I am thinking of modifying my own watch and was choosing either the chinese or the swiss make movement.

If you can find a vendor of off-the-shelf movements (rather than buying a complete watch to break for parts) you're likely to be offered a choice of a Liaoning movement with a 21,600bph escapement or a Shanghai with a 28,800bph escapement.

There is a 28,800 Liaoning, but I personally would not trust it. And if you get offered one with the sub-dials arranged like a Rolex Daytona (seconds at 6 o'clock), run away!

Some components are of equal quality to the Swiss, others are of lesser quality. The Shanghai uses a reverser wheel with 5 ruby ball bearings in the clutch rather than the ratchet click of the ETA. This is probably an improvement over the Swiss. Both Liaoning and Shanghai offer a variety of layouts mimicking the basic variations of the 7750 family.

I suspect that buying an uncased movement is a safer bet than a complete watch, as it is assembly rather than manufacture which is the Achilles heel of these movements.

Besides all that, as particleman suggests, check out Lysanderxiii's pictorial tear-down.

Many thanks for the valuable information.
