how much better is Citizen "Super Titanium" compared to the titanium used in other titanium watches? In other words is it truly more resistant to scratching and impacts than uncoated titanium watches? Lets hear from members who have both, and wear them regularly, as I am long retired and thus a poor representative of average watch wearers as far as possible damage is concerned.

Super titanium is a type of Citizen's proprietary Duratect hardness coating of which there are the following 11 types:

According to info in the following link, Super titanium is Duratect α, with a Vickers hardness of between 2,000 to 2,500Hv. Pure titanium can be as little as 250Hv.

I have a scratch free Duratect alpha watch.

For those interested in horology, Citizen is credited as the first and still best maker of Titanium cases. Having said that, many other manufacturers have watches similar to the 1200-1500 duratect coatings.

The link above is somewhat misleading, since Super Titanium is generically used for duratect coatings but the example they show is Duratect alpha. Not all Super Titanium is alpha, in fact alpha use is very rare. For those who want to know about all things Ti and have a few hours, check out this thread here:

Thanks for that. I was indeed surprised to read that it was alpha given that Super Titanium is used in many inexpensive watches. Shame that we can’t even believe the manufacturer.

Without a spec it is meaningless. If this is a Ti mix, then it will say grade X Ti or old Beta Ti or 6al4V Ti, etc. If it is a coating, then it should say so. If they are actually using a coating and calling that super Ti, to me that is misleading and false.
