Hello!

First time here. I'm currently looking for a ladies watch for myself in the $2,000 range. I'd like something delicate looking and not too masculine. Along the lines of Chanel Premiere or Cartier Francaise (but a little more feminine) but not that expensive. Now you watch purists aren't going to like my next comment:-d. I actually love the style of the David Yurman Albian watch- 23mm quartz, white face. But I can't stomach paying 2 grand for basically a brand name. I want something that's quality, small face since I have small wrists, and is classic without tons of bling. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

If you're willing to buy used, your money will go pretty far - women's watches just don't seem to hold their value as much as men's watches...or perhaps they start off more-affordable and remain that way.

If you are willing to go grey market...

Chanel Premiere is available for just a bit above 2k mark:
www.thewatchery.com/results.asp?searchstring=chanel%20primi&osh=chanel%20primiere&cnt=3

Cartier Tank Francaise is little above 3k, but this is a classic and personally I would save for this one or try to find a mint used example:
search.jomashop.com/search#w=cartier%20tank%20francaise

Chanel is on sale at the moment with 3+ hours to spare so the price may change soon, but you can find other places at little over 2k as well.

Happy hunting.

So can someone explain to me with sites like Jomashop & The Watchery, how they're able to sell these watches for so cheap? And I'm assuming places like Cartier and Chanel will not "honor" these watches for repair, etc. since they're not purchased from a certified dealer??

Well... as I hardly ever buy any watch new, I am not an expert of these info; hopefully others with more knowledge will chime in on this.
However, there are several threads relating to grey market and warranty.
If I remember correctly, the grey markets themselves provide their own warranty and the manufacture will not honor the warranty (I may be wrong about this...)
However, Jomashop and The Watchery are both well regarded grey markets with decent return policy, so I feel that it may be worth saving considerable moneys for not getting manufacture warranty. mho.

The markup on watches in general is pretty high. Jomashop probably buys them from authorized dealers at cost (or less) and resells them at a slight markup because they can still make money due to volume or lower overhead. You're right in assuming that the manufacturers usually will not honor the warranty. Jomashop and other grey market dealers usually provide their own warranties. You'd need to do a little research as to how good each company's warranty service is.

Are you specifically looking for a watch with a square or rectangular case? Take at look at the Longines Dolcevita. Women's Watches - Watch Selector

Keep in mind, just because the manufacturer doesn't honor the warranty, that doesn't mean the manufacturer - or any independent shop for that matter - won't repair or service the watch.

Browse Longines, Baume & Mercier, Omega, Hermes. Hermes especially has some nice fun well built designs in your price range. Otherwise, I'd go Longines.
