Thanks for another great article, Desmond. I think you're right on, from the "market" and "value" aspect of collecting. Of course, it does come down to the specific piece, the individual owner, and the intent, thereof. There are degrees of "restoration," where a delicate balance should be observed, so that the owner can enjoy the watch. Maintaining the history of a rare piece, albeit with certain imperfections of age, should be a priority, in my view. However, because the essence of a timepiece is its ability to tell time, "functional restoration" is permissible.
