I've recently taken an interest in Cartier, CPCP, the Tortue in particular. I was hoping to get some input from those who are far more knowledgeable than me on Cartier.

I found an example on C24 that seems to be much cheaper than other listings for a 2496. The pics on the listing aren't great but, to me, the finishing of the case looks very dull, almost a brushed finish, and the case just doesn't look as sharp compares to other examples I've seen. The dial also looks a little discolored around the edges but not sure if those are just shadows. Is this something that can be restored adequately if I send it into Cartier for service? Or should I move on and look for a better example. If the latter, it seems that $20-22k is the asking price but not sure if it's worth it at that price point. Thank you in advance!

Just my thoughts, as someone who has owned a few Tortues in the past: the condition looks average at best. Sure it can be polished / cleaned, but for me the beauty of these pieces is in the clean lines. I’ve bought a cheap Santos Dumont in the past and regretted it. My advice is to wait for a good one!

Agreed! I appreciate the input. How was your experience with Tortues? Likes/dislikes? Any tips for someone looking to buy one? There just isn't much out there. Prices seem to be all over the place because these pieces aren't sold on a regular basis on the secondary market.

I have a Tortue CPCP 18K Yellow Gold that just came back from the factory if you are interested! It also has a brand new black Alligator strap from Cartier. I have not worn the watch since it came back, and am looking to sell the watch. It has new gaskets, new sapphire crystal (front - it had a small scratch, and I decided to bite the bullet and change the crystal), and movement overhauled. They did not touch nor change the dial or the hands. It comes with box (with cover box), open papers, service suede watch pouch, and service papers (with 2 years of factory warranty). I am located in NYC, and the service was done at NYC 5th ave Maison. If you are in the city, you are more than welcome to see it in person.
