Credor 8J81 any thoughts out there?

Recently picked this up, it is far away from my usual style being an unashamed dress watch and small with it, it was in fantastic condition though.

It is this Credor 8J81 from 2003.

It is elegant and looks and feels like quality. It is a basic three hander but it hides a fantastic movement the 8J81 which is a thermo-compensated, High Accuracy movement, good for 10 seconds a year.

Credor still use this movement in their current watches like this one.

They have pushed the prices up though in line with the Swiss, that one will cost $4000 perhaps that is why they dropped the name 'Seiko' from the dial.

Credor's are currently Seiko's top of the range usually having a bit of bling on them.

The one I have does have some bling but it is fairly subtle it is SS with an 18K bezel and a cabochon jewel in the crown.

It features an AR coated sapphire crystal that sits proud of the 18K bezel and is just "Water Resistant" so best not take a shower in it! Not sure what the strap is made of but there is no mistaking it is a Credor!

Size wise it wears a bit bigger than its stated dimensions but it is small for a mans watch these days.

So actually pretty pleased to have this HAQ watch in my collection, it is now the most elegant watch I own and in such great condition for a fifteen year old watch, can't have been worn much.

Any thoughts out there?

My only issue might be contrast. The dial color will turn some off but I like it...but, gold hands aren't my first choice with it.

That aside, it's gorgeous. Very fluid. Great find. This is a way to do two-tone that can work very well.

Congratulations on acquiring a lovely new (to you) addition to your collection. It appears that it has been well taken care of.
The size is perfect for a dress watch.
As mentioned by Watchbreath and gangrel, the gold hands on gold face could be somewhat of a challenge to read in certain lighting conditions, but it is a very classy watch, and most of us tend to stare at our watches a bit longer than necessary anyway. Whether reading the time or not, looking at our watch is a major part of the enjoyment of the watch collecting hobby.
Enjoy your newest addition.

That is true, in theory you could wear it every day as it has a sapphire crystal and is so small and slim it is unlikely to pick up damage but how many like it do you see out there? Also you can't afford to get it really wet as the WR is uncertain and anyway it is on leather.

You can see why the sports watches dominate.

Unfortunately it doesn't.

It is a fine movement though, matching the Seiko 9F.. at 10 seconds a year and beating the Swiss HAQ found in Breitling et al. It can't match the Citizen A660 movement though and that one does have the separately adjustable hour hand and remains the most accurate watch readily available.

The dial is gorgeous. The indices well-shaped. The hands lovely as all get out. And HAQ to boot. Wear it in great health!

I like it. A lot.

Funny how there have been many DateJusts posted with similar color schemes with hardly a mention of "low contrast". I always wonder what Credor means in english. It just sounds to close to "cretin" to me for some reason.
This is supposed to be the origin of the name.

"In 1969, Seiko wanted to design a specially selected wrist watch series, one that was high end and made of precious metals (14/18K gold or platinum). In 1974, the series was grouped and named "SEIKO KUREDORU" ( SEIKO CRET DOR ). " CRET D'OR " means " the golden top" in French. The symbol of Credor is derived from the chinese word "Mountain" and symbolise the aim of reaching the summit and touches the cloud and the heaven."

Amazing watch!

Considering a Credor GCAR059 which uses the same movement as your watch but I'm finding it hard to get detailed informations about the movement.
or a Grand Seiko with its 9F, which is well known to have one of the best in the world.

Do you happen to know if the 8J81 has the same technology and attention to details as the 9F? What kind of battery does it use?
And most importantly is the movement sealed so dust and debris can't go in during a battery change?

Even though Credor still use this movement on some current models I don't believe it as good as the 9F movement, even though it has the same accuracy, though it must be built with fine tolerances. it is not sealed and you can see what battery it uses in the photo of the movement I posted in the opening post.

Now this is quite a few years old! Hoping some are active still, these are a really good looking minimalistic and durable HAQ, but I can’t find much information at all on it or the movement/s and wonder if anyone can differentiate the 8J81B movement here with 7 jewels to the 8J81A I have also seen in similar models with only 5 jewels, I wonder when they modified the A to B and is it better and why
