Deal gone horribly wrong with thepress83

Hi everyone. It is with great depression and anxiety that I am writing this post. I recently struck a deal with thepress83 for his Rolex Daytona 116500. The deal was as follows: $12K + my vintage Rolex submariner 5513 in exchange for his Daytona. I was to send him the $12,000, he would ship me the daytona, and then I would ship him the 5513. This seemed reasonable to me as I would have time to verify the authenticity of the Daytona prior to shipping him my 5513. The $12,000 was sent and I received his Daytona promptly.

Upon receipt of the Daytona, I took it to a reputable watchmaker who opened the caseback. He immediately informed me that nothing was genuine about the movement (see photos attached). My heart sank.

I immediately messaged and emailed thepress83 that the watch was not genuine. I have heard no response for 4 days. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt that he did not know the watch was fake, but this lack of response is not indicative of that. He mentioned he was going to be away for 4 days but it is very unlikely one does not have access to internet or cell service for this extended period of time. I am writing this post so that no one else has similar issues dealing with thepress83. I am still hoping he does the right thing and returns my funds. As the days go on without a response, my hopes are dwindling. I will update this post promptly if he does the right thing.

Hope this is all resolved promptly and smoothly, and was a case of the seller not knowing, as opposed to something more nefarious.

Is there a way to put in a request for your payment to be rescinded? How did you pay?

Honestly, checking out the history of the seller would have made me cautious and not wanting to deal with him.
Hope you get it sorted.

Normally I would agree. I have given him 4 days and lots of red flags have popped up in those 4 days. I didn’t want anyone else to have issues with his other listings in the meantime. Hence I made the decision to post. I will delete and update the listing with a positive review if this gets resolved.

I am very this happened to you but thank you very much for the warning and the other posters too that warned what to look for. Pray that this resolves to your favor.

The Gumtree fraudster (from Ukraine) that did me out of £130 pails into insignificance.

No trades at this time please unless you have a Lange annual calendar, then we could talk :)

Same day states traded... ????

One look at the case polishing in the seller's listing should have been a huge red flag. The listing photos show a soft, mushy case that was either a.) A poorly executed fake, or B.) A horribly overpolished genuine (which would be odd for a 2019 watch).

This is obviously painful, but hopefully it will be an important learning experience.

Man, I hate reading stuff like this, although I realize it happens more than we care to think (especially when buying from random people). I hope it gets sorted, too, and I hope it doesn't go the way of the Panerai victim that was told "well, you must have swapped the movement out when you had it opened up". Fingers crossed for you.

Our passion for watches often causes us many problems. You always have to be vigilant and careful, especially before buying such an expensive watch. But before buying, a man thinks more about a new watch than about his own safety.
Such an expensive watch from 2019 without papers immediately smells of problems. I hope you get your money back, after all, it's our common passion for watches, you have to respect each other and, above all, honesty.

This is scary because I see a lot of great feedback for 'thepress83' ...
