You have wonderful taste and can't go wrong with either....
I can't imagine not owning an explorer; whether I owned 1 or 100 watches.
However, I believe that specific Oyster Perpetual is what one should buy as one-and-done for 20 years before buying a second Rolex. (and then only need the second as backup to that OP)

Thanks for feedback! Bought from an AD was treated very nicely. Sales lady was very helpful. Got a free Rolex book but no hat!
