I was trying to buy this watch, guy says it was his dads and was never redialed
yet there is no swiss made marked at bottom. Other than that dial looks genuine to me.

This is a 70-71 model. Were there

It would have made it easier if you hadn't posted the photo upside down, but that dial has clealy been (at least partially) redone - most likely a long time ago.

Look at the minute marks (different lengths and thicknesses) and the "De Ville" - especially the E's and the lume pips

That's the way he sent it and I'm new to this win 10 machine and have no rotate or would have done that. Here's what I think is an ORIGINAL dial...I see NOW the "E"s aren't even CLOSE to this original

I'M SEEIN THAT HUGE "S" AS WELL ON THE REDIAL
I'm guessing his dad had it redialed in the 1970s or early 80s and he didn't know that
Good everyday watch, but with that dial...there goes the value doesnt it?
I think you're right, and thank you for bringing that good insight to my attention..

The bigger question is why it was redialed. Was there water damage?
No way of knowing w/o getting the watch and dismantling it. As you know the devilles have to come out thru the front. The boy doesnt know I'm sure that answer died with the old man in 1988.
He's about $100 more than I'm comfortble with right now, knowing for a fact it's a redial.

Most all of em I'd think...the watch I wear most is an old Citizen 21J automatic circa 1990s...as dependable as any Seiko and still looks good. I'm more into VALUE than prestige...anyone with enough money can buy a nice Rolex or Omega...
