Hey watch enthusiasts,
I am looking to buy either a Seiko SKX007 or SKX009 diver watch from creationwatches.com, however i wish to understand the reasoning behind the price discrepancies between what to me seem to be the same watch.
SKX009J1 VS SKX009K1
SKX007J1 VS SKX007K1.
In both instances the watch represented by the J at the end is marginally more expensive than its K counterpart. There is already reference to this issue on the forum and two theories prevail.
Some claim that the J indicates that the watch was made in Japan whereas the K indicates the watch was made in China/Indonesia/Malaysia or wherever. Others believe the J represents the market place it was intended for say the Asian and K could represent Europe/North America.
It would have been my belief that a genuine Seiko watch made in Japan Thailand or Timbuktu would be of identical quality. Official Seiko watches strictly adhere to a uniform manufacturing process therefore the quality should be identical regardless of where it was made. I would guess that only the high end luxury models would be made in Japan. Watches made outside of Japan are for access to a cheap labour force and tax incentives however I digress.
Creationwatches.com state that both watches with the J were made in Japan and above the 6 there is an additional print of 21 Jewels on the dial. Can anyone shed further light on this and does the J detonate a higher quality to justify its higher value? All thoughts on this issue are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
