The argument is you wouldn't dive with the leather strap. It's an interesting comment, since...

1) I'm willing to wager that at least 75% of people who wear divers don't utilize them for their intended purpose anyway

2) ...you can just change to a more suitable bracelet if you were to go diving.

I had an Oak & Oscar horween strap that looked pretty smart on a Ginault Ocean-Rover.

 

This is what I was thinking... My Pro Diver hasn't seen really any water use yet since I just got it a couple of months ago in the middle of October to be my 'beater', and since I know I won't be getting it super wet I usually keep it on a water resistant leather strap, which is just wax-coated leather. It suits my needs perfectly. If said needs change, thank goodness for quick-release spring-bars!

 

If you think socks look good with sandals, then leather probably looks good on a water-oriented sport watch like a diver. Whether or not it actually sees water doesn't really change the way it looks.

 

That's the best analogy I've ever heard. I don't care for sandals, though 😳

Nothing wrong with it, it's just a style choice. If I was to go diving, I'd take a braceleted watch with me, but I also enjoy divers for non-water use, as do scores of others.

 

I've been wanting a bracelet for my Pro Diver. The rubber strap it came on is nice but I'm more of a braceleted diver guy. I can't seem to find any aftermarket bracelets for my model though.

 

It depends on who you ask; tons of people put divers on leather and there are a lot of divers that come stock on leather. Most Panerais I've seen were on leather. It's an easy way to make a watch look more vintage, since early divers were on leather.

 

I wear socks with sandals sometimes too. Other than the time I spent in the Army and Air Force I dress they way I want to.

A diver would look great on either shark or skate strap. Rugged looking leather with a nautical connection. And because must of us won't be diving with the watch water resistant leather isn't needed.

And yes I have worn socks with hiking sandals when it gets cold.

 

When I go hiking, it's steel toe Belleville boots and my Casio Triple-Sensor for me

 

I dive with my dive watches... which has recently only come to include a Rolex 124060... and even I can get on board with a grey suede strap.

That said, I think a lot of the consternation with this topic comes down to wearing a watch on a strap that 100% doesn't match its intended use.

 

RIght, which is why I don't get the seemingly massive polarization of wearing a leather on a water-oriented watch.

 

For bigger and heavier divers, definetely zulu leather. The watch head is havy so light leather strap will make this combo uncomfortable and dancing on wrist. With zulu it is a little tighter and I like the combo. [emoji118]

To me it looks like a Jeep with big rims and low profile tires, or true sports cars with big meaty off-road tires (like a mad max movie scene) - they are different and maybe even interesting to look at but something does look off.

I get what you're saying. I don't love the look of my Pro Diver on the leather, but it's the most comfortable to wear. Also, I see your lifted C8 and raise you a Hummer H2 on 13 inch Lada rims. Not a rendering, btw.

 

All of my divers have leather straps. This is just one of them.

Diver on leather NATO strap....

 

 

I've wore my Steinhart OVM on a leather Nato for a long time, it's back on the bracelet now though as I fancied a change.

 

 

I wouldn't personally, but I'll happily laugh at your sandals and socks watch.

 

I tend to find divers, especially heavy ones, flop about on the wrist more than I'd like when worn on leather.

A bracelet spreads that weight out a little better (and feels good), and rubber has more friction against the wrist than leather.

 

Well on some divers I would in some periods.
My Seamaster will not be used for diving so maybe I would put a leather strap on in during winter where I wouldn’t even go swimming with it.
My Citizen Promaster that I actually use for diving I would never put a leather strap on – not sure it would work aesthetically either.

I don't mind divers on leather at all . With that said , people opt for rubber or steal because even if they aren't diving a leather strap kinda goes against the diving theme .

 

I think in most cases a dive watch on a leather strap looks “off”. I tried it on a mine a few times and quickly moved back to something more appropriate. It looks the worst on the more toolish dive watches, a little better on the dress divers. IMHO.
