So-called "wide boy" dials - were these only on DJs in the 70s and 80s? References like 1601 or 16014? Any info from Rolex collectors? Much appreciated.

If by "wide boy" you mean the wider baton marker with a central lume strip (making the baton wider than normal), I have a 1965 Oyster Perpetual with them, and a 1970 DJ with the normal baton and a lume "pip" at the end.

I had a DJ with a blue wide boy dial for a while. I believe it was a 1971-72.
