So, some of you may recently have saw my Seiko post (thanks for all the awesome comments btw! It kind of blew up), but it got me thinking of a Seiko Presage that originally caught my eye. It is a Seiko SSA409J1 which was a cocktail inspired watch released last year based on the "Honeycomb" created in Ginza using honey from bees there. This may sound dumb, but I feel weird buying a watch based on a drink since I've never drank nor plan to. Am I the only one? Is this an overreaction? Discuss.

You do get that it's a watch and not an actual cocktail, right? You might be closer to hysteria than overreaction. So long as you don't lick the watch I think you should be okay.

I have a Seiko Presage SRPE41 Cocktail Time "Negroni," purchased as a gift for me by the mrs-ish, at my request. Even though I have substance use (abuse) issues specifically with alcohol. I was never one for cocktails, and maybe that's the critical detail, but it holds absolutely no negative connotations for me. It's a watch - I can't drink it.

Now let's just drop this subject before we get into watch collecting as a possible addictive substitute for alcoholism...

Cocktail doesn't necessarily mean "alcoholic beverage". It can also be applied to cold appetizer dishes like shrimp cocktail.

Ultimately, I would look at it like this.

• They're influenced by the luxury and opulence of cocktail bars: Presage collection inspired by the cocktail bar | Presage | Brands | Seiko Watch Corporation. (I'm surprised they use 'cocktail bar' instead of 'cocktail lounge'.)
• They're NOT influenced by a specific brand of alcohol. It's not a collaboration.
• They're NOT influenced by beer like Busch Light that college kids pound by the case full.
• 'Cocktail Time' is not a sub-line like Presage - so there isn't any Cocktail Time labeling on them.
• Nobody would ever know anything about this outside of WUS.

Seiko is just simply trying to tie-in the atmosphere of upscale 'lounges'. They aren't pushing a brand alcohol or abuse of alcohol. Unless you are fervently and strictly against alcohol, I wouldn't let it bother me.

Yeah, except Seiko literally lays out specific cocktails the different models are influenced by. So while technically true, it doesn't hold weight - unless you assume Seiko is referencing virgin cocktails.

LOL thanks for the thoughtful response. I knew I'd get some ridicule, so it's fine, but yeah i never thought about it to that extent outside of the opulence of a lounge meaning the watch has the upscale appearance and quality materials. It was just a wayward thought that got me thinking if anyone else felt that way.

It's just marketing hype. Moonwatches don't actually go to the moon or tell the moon phase. You don't have to wear mud-masters in the mud. Most divers never get wet. Don't have to murder people with your james bond watches. The names are evocative, suggest a style, but also a lot of nonsense
