While my search for the perfect Bluering continues, it appears that a distracted me overpaid one of my credit card by the sum of $450. Received the check back in the mail today. So, armed with $450 I thought I'd already spent, what could be a better way than possibly buying a new watch to add to the collection? My Bluering search is yielding little fruit and fewer watches, so I feel a ULF style failure is in the works. But, I need a watch on which to fail.

Let's cap it at $500
New or used, as long as it's readily available used
43-46mm
Preferably on leather or rubber (no steel unless it has drilled lugs)
Automatic strongly preferred
Strong lume a definite plus
A little color would be nice; my whole collection is beginning to look like The Big Sleep minus Martha Vickers

Don't say 007/009 or Monster, because it won't happen. Too small.

Now I've been a little obsessed with Marathon for a while, and I've been thinking a JSAR or GSAR might fit the bill; of course they're not perfect, as the JSAR is quartz and the GSAR is too small.

So neither technically fall into the size range. Find me something guys, or this money is just going to accrue interest!

You know as soon as you spend this money 3 BlueRings will pop up on the sales forum don't you?? HaHa No, that would be MY luck!! If your interested in the Marathon watches I say go for it! Until you finally get one you'll lust over them endlessly! I did for 6 months before getting mine, then it was too small and I sold it!! (GSAR) I then found an awesome deal on an excellent condition TSAR and knowing it would be too small I thought I could learn to live with it for the "steal" of a price I got it for......Nope, sold it a week later! IMO if you gonna get one get the JSAR, because the bezel diameter of the GSAR/TSAR is a tad over 40mm and the dial is only 28mm which makes it look like a baby watch!

Pffft, buy something else so the Watch Gods will make a Bluering pop up. It may be the best way to have one appear on the sales forum. :-d:-d

Raza, you have permission to ULFail. Carry on!
Haha, great post in light of...ahem...recent events.

Now if I can just find a Breitling SuperOcean Heritage 46 for $500, I'll be a happy camper.

Also, counting the posts (discounting my own) until I get the obvious suggestion.

i think you might just be pushing it now!!! ;)

I think you may be right. Okay, so the frontrunner right now is still the JSAR. GSARs are too expensive.

What are your thoughts on the Helson Sharkdiver? Large watch with an excellent reputation and CS from the owner. Would look good on your large wrist and is strap friendly. Strong lume, auto movement, pierced lugs and color options. Should be found used on the sales forum in your price range. Has the toolish feel of the Marathon line.

Oh, I do like that. I was set on buying one before I discovered the Halios. I must do a little more digging.

What about a Magrette Moana Pacific Diver, hits all your qualifications other than color....

If you need color, there's a Moray II on sale in the Sales Corner for $500 with a blue dart dial.

Although it doesn't have drilled lugs, the Irreantum Magellan is $545 and comes in a variety of colors and I'm sure it works with a nato:

The Magrette is interesting, but I don't know much about them. I thought they did PAM homages? Or am I thinking of something else?

The Benarus doesn't quite tickle my fancy (something about the indices) and the Irreantum reminds me of a Doxa a little too much. The Magrette seems solid though.

Yup, I'm surprised that wasn't the first suggestion. I really have a hard time believing it's noticeably better than my SRP043K2, which is what makes it a really interesting choice.

Good suggestions, everyone! Right now, the Shark Diver is pushing up to almost level with the JSAR. I'll have to check the sales forums.

How about an MSAR. Get that red maple leaf for some color. Not sure of the diameter though...
