So I can only think of two choices at this price point...
Seiko 5s in vintage and contemporary guise or Swatch :-d
Any other options?

What you're looking for is an Orient Mako. They can be had for $99 if you look in the right spot and can be dressed up or down. The blue is especially nice, but you can't go wrong with any of the other colors either. If the Mako doesn't float your boat, then you could look at the Seiko SKX031 or SKX033. They've been compared to the Submariner in the looks department while having a little style of their own.

Those are dive watches, I personally wouldn't classify them as dress watches myself ;).

Alpha have some DateJust homages (apart from some other stuff), as do Orient (saw some on the Bay).

(If you can go just above 100, have you heard about these?

Plenty of reviews floating around this place. -- remember, forum discount ;) --I'd like one of the 180's myself if they came with a black dial option)

Yeah, All my dress watches are dive watches. Different Strokes. If you're looking for something more formal, I've also heard good things about Sea-gull watches from the forum.

$89 today at orientalwatchsite.com

It's Orient's official deal of the day site, and they have dress watches <$100 probably two or three times a week.

Kevin has some beauties just above $100 at usseagull.com

If you really want to keep it below $100, search for sea-gull in ebay watches. There are some decent looking pieces starting at $29.99. They haven't sold, so if you bid you should be able to pick it up for that price.

Alpha, clearly, but I've been unimpressed with their quality recently.

Tissot PR50 on a strap was an interesting suggestion. Probably not less than 100, but can be found at $115 here (http://www.24diamonds.com/view/5700)

or perhaps the above Invicta if you want the two tone look, which is on amazon.com here for $100 (

If you want WAY sub-100, go with Timex - they some cheapies with indiglo, which really do look good under a suit/tux. This is exactly as I bought it (yes, it's midnight so the date was in the middle of changing -- not broken or anything) :

here's the thingy if you're trying to find it:
