Both are digital and has no hands, so no lume. Do you mean the EL backlight?

They're both good and pretty much the same.

The Gulfman is a little bit bigger but the strap and buttons are more comfortable and it is rust-resistant. The non-atomic versions also have a tide/moon graph.

The Mudman is dust- and mud-resistant and some versions have a rally timer.

The EL backlight is pretty much the same on all current G-Shocks, both in duration (3 secs?) and brightness. The big difference is whether the watch has a positive display (normal light background with dark digits) or a reverse one (which is darker and the EL appears to lit up the digits instead of the whole display).

Neither the standard Gulfmans nor the standard Mudmans have an EL image which covers parts of the digits and their backlights are among the brightest, lighting the whole display (even in 2 colors, depending on the model).

If you search the forum, other members have posted pictures of the EL backlights of both models in the past.

Here's a shot of the EL of my solar, atomic Muddy gw9000A1 -

Keep in mind the EL on most solar G-Shocks IS dimmer than that of the non-solar G-Shocks (something I was just looking at myself in another thread on the EL of the MIRB Frog).

That said, the EL on my gw9000A1 is PLENTY bright, I can see it easily when laying in bed at night.

BTW, I LOVE my gw9000A1, it's like a tank, and am actually enjoying it more than my previous "daily beater", a 6900. Love the additional features (multiple alarms, dual time zones - I have mine set to GMT), not to mention the fact that it's solar AND atomic :), but I ESPECIALLY love the auto EL feature out of it all! :)

All in all a great little watch that should run forever. :)

HTH

Here's mine I customized the lettering on BTW -
