Not sure if a lot of folks noticed but an iced out Omega that Elvis got in 1960 from his record company went up for auction a couple of days ago.

The story is that he later traded it for a Hamilton some guy was wearing next to him in a casino. The family some 50 years later put it up for auction, and the auction house expected the high end bid at about 100k.

Sold for 1.8 million. Not sure what you guys think but, I guess he is still is the king when a watch he didn't much care about performs that well.

Yep the highest priced Rolex, and the highest priced Omega sold at auction share that distinction.

Paul Newmans Daytona went for almost $18,000,000 and he had given it away decades ago to his daughters boyfriend (IIRC)

Makes me think Paul Newman is the real king
I wonder what became of Steve Mcqueen's watches.

I read the 1st Rolex Sub was presented at the 1st Basel World in 1957
MSRP (now hold on to your hats) was $157.00 (according to the article)
I've never heard of a new Sub selling for $157.00!!!! But that was a heap
of years go. Who knows?Inflation being what it is.
My Urologist just bought a new Rollie $10,000.00 +.Now I know where ny
doctor bills have gone!!!!

With inflation that's like $1400 today.

I remember Steve McQueen's famous Heuer Monaco came up for sale years ago and "only" made, like $45k ! ! I really think it would give the #2 a run for its money today.

I was an under bidder on it... waaahaaahay under!
