Morning!
I did a search but couldn't seem to find any threads on this topic....so starting this one.

For those of you who have a watch with the VH31 or experience with it, how is it?
So basically it's a quartz but with a sweeping seconds hand?
How is the battery life - does it use more power because it sweeps?

I am looking at a field watch that uses this movement.

cheers!

In theory it would use more battery power over time due to the faster beat rate. According to the spec sheet, though, battery life is an expected two years, which is just about standard for SII quartz movements.

gee, i just went to their website and i like that Newmark '52 in black. That's kind of what i'm looking for. a good field watch for camping. good strong lume, no nonsense.

Looks like a great deal. i don't know if they're not taking orders but i don't see any link on their site to 'add to cart' haha. maybe sold out.

basically i was looking at this...from france. It uses the VH31 movement. LMM 01 became famous when they spotted it on the wrist of the French President Emmanuel Macron :p

If you go onto Youtube and search for "Seiko VH31" you can find several videos with microbrands using this movement. It's a pretty interesting technology. I saw one in real life, and it somehow seemed just slightly less smooth than a similar beat rate mechanical watch. Maybe because of some backlash on the second hand, or maybe the movement of the hand is faster than what you get with a mechanical, but it just seemed a tiny bit more jerky than mechanicals to me. I like it a lot more than usual quartz watches, that's for sure. The Bulova high-frequency movements are the best example of this type of smooth-sweeping second hand, but they don't seem to be available anymore.

Batter life is around 2 years. Timekeeping is excellent. Sweeping seconds hand has even satisfied automatic snobs like myself :)

This was the first quartz we used and it has been a big success.

If you see a model with it that you like, go for it. You will not be disappointed.
