Fake packaging, better than you expected. Be Warned!

Gentlemen (and gentlewomen), I have a bad habit. I cruise forums dedicated to fake watches. I do it partly due to morbid curiosity, and partly because I like to be able to identify a fake on someone's wrist when I see it, so I can avoid conversation about it. I'm no friend to fakes or those who own them, but I can't stop examining them to discover the differences.

I submit photographs I found on a well known rep-forum in the interest of educating any potential purchasers of a used or grey market Omega. It appears that the box can now be replicated nearly perfectly.

Y'know, it's funny. Fake makers will go to great lengths to get the packaging correct on something like this, but they'll still do such a poor job on the actual watch itself.

It's even got the cards. Just seeing this picture, I'd probably think we were dealing with a genuine Omega. Maybe I wouldn't notice the lack of numbers on the cards if they were just a LITTLE further in the wallet thing. Well, let's look inside shall we?

What the heck!? Now THAT is an ugly Speedmaster! Immediately, you'll notice the hideous dial spacing.

And, even more hilarious:

Wow! Co-Axial in a Speedy Pro variant, eh? Unless I don't know something about that particular limited edition Speedy, I seriously doubt that anyone is going to take that warranty into consideration.

There is a Co-Axial speedy variant.

Also, I would bet good money that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a SMP Chrono and a white logo SMP Chrono fake from photos.

Some specific fakes are extremely good, don't underestimate them, caveat emptor

The SMP Chrono I have seen faked very well. In Chinatown right now, I've seen incredible quartz versions. You're probably right about that.
The quartz fakes are normally terrible and the cheapest of the cheap. I'm talking about $300+ fakes and some $600 fakes which are quite good. They even have fake watch watchmakers who are pretty highly skilled in getting it very close and performing gen dial switches, etc.

Yes, I understand your point, I was agreeing with your former post in that even some typically bad Chinatown Quartz fakes really look the part of that particular model.
The sub dials are spaced worse than britney spears`s eyes. That`s a dead giveaway.
I think there should be a sub forum "dedicated" for fake omega watches we all find on the web. The guys at WUS-casio have it.

In addition, i too go to that specific website. (i opened the "alpha" thread after the first time on that website)
Full of BS, but knowledge is power.
Can you verify authentity with Omega using the serial number engraved on caseback? Can you do this yourself on their website?

I guess next time I see a pic of Britney Spears I will have to look Northward, I didnt know she even had eyes!:-d

My understanding from that "Replica" site is that some of the best fakes out there (Planet Ocean for example) don't even bother with the serial number. Buyers are simply more interested in getting the look of the real thing on their wrists, and not so much what it looks like it when you flip it over and check the lugs.

I am sure a lot of them DO have it, and I know there are certain numbers that usually signify a fake, but it was interesting to me that the most popular fakes didn't even bother.

Oh, to actually answer the question, yes you can use a form on Omega's site to check the authenticity of your watch.
The best PO replica is actually pretty poor and there are many give aways thats easily to tell from photos if it's fake or not.

Stuff like Ebel Discovery and some high end $600 custom Submariners are very hard to tell especially with some decent mods without handling the watch and knowing what to look for.
The Speedy I could tell is fake but that box is insanely accurate... Are you sure that isn't just a fake watch someone put in an authentic box?

That is what I was thinking.
Guess where the boxes and docs are made...
